    Glue thinners?

    Hello.

Rightly or wrongly I use Revell Contacta glue for assembling small parts. I have stuck three small parts together in the wrong way and need to separate them. I cannot risk using a scalpel to gently force them apart as they are so small and so fragile.

Is there a thinner in which I could soak the pasrts which would soften the glue without melting the plastic?

    Thanks to all

Try soaking the parts in brake fluid. When I was trying to shift acrylic paint from some small parts I noticed that the glued joints had fallen apart. (That caused me to lose some bits down the sink when I was cleaning the brake fluid off but that's another story!). They had been soaking for a couple of days so it's not quick but it certainly didn't harm the plastic.

in theory the glue melts the plastic so that the two pieces are welded together to form one piece so IN THEORY they should not be able to come apart unless they are cut. does not stop you knocking pieces off just when you didnt want to.

If the glue has not cured you can soften it again with........glue. Liquid poly works a treat. After the glue has cured? to late mate.

Think the only way you are going to achieve this Aidan, this is without seeing the complexity of the problem, is to carefully with a new Morton Blade or a very fine razor blade saw the pieces apart. Then using super glue or if possible or Mr Cement S. Mr Cement S will weld the plastic pieces together. You can hold the pieces & it will go off in a minute or two giving you a very small window to slightly adjust.
