New project - advice needed on painting

    Hey there,

I appreciate this may be in the wrong forum but wasn't sure where else to stick it. With a bit of time on my hands I've been doing a wee spot of modelling. The last two builds I've done have been commissions but as they are the Zoid series of models despite being time consuming they don't need painting or glueing etc. See http://www.scale-models.co.uk/sci-fi...er-1-72-a.html for more info. (I've images from the last build I did, same series, different model, which I'll hopefully get posted up soon)

One of the websites I frequent to do with these models has a competition about to start. Two categories; a custom paint job, and a custom build. I'm hoping to put an entry in for both, unfortunately competition rules are I can't post up any work in progress images or details until I've submitted my entry.

What I can say I believe is that for the paint job I'm looking at an alternate history dioramma. One of these beasties painted up in Russian WWII colours with the remains of a German tank close by. What I need advice on is how to go about that. These models have myriad small and moveable parts. I'm probably going to glue the model into the pose I want to make my life slightly easier but any advice on painting a sizeable model with such an uneven surface would be much appreciated. I don't have access to an airbrush (except an old, leaking humbrol one which I should probably chuck) and to be honest I don't have the budget for one now. I'm thinking a flat colour across it all and then build up from there but it's been so long since I've done a project of this size I'm more than a bit rusty. =)

For the custom build...... I guess the most I can say is that it's aquatic based and I need to work out how to make concave armour segments. Ain't that going to be fun? :S
