    You can't park there mate!

Thanks everyone. Yes, these fellows are so much better that there's no need to even consider the red ones. I suppose I should have expected the worst at £9 for a box of 39 figures 😂 I agree Tim, it was always hard to see the line between fact and fiction but I found that to be part of the...

    You can't park there mate!

Thanks guys. Neil - I've had plenty of failures 😂 but I keep trying and some of them come out looking okay.

    You can't park there mate!

Thanks John, that means a lot. As it happens I've abandoned those figures as the other set I'd ordered has arrived. They are so much better quality than the rubbery red guys that it was a no brainier. I had to jiggle around to suit their different poses but I'm even happier with this: So I...

    1/1 paintwork

Thanks gents. Blue is definitely my favourite colour for these Tony. My mate is building a 22B replica (2 door, wide body) and has had me paint it dark grey. It really should have been blue! 😂 Tim - he's got a couple of these, along with lots of other classic bikes. This particular one he's...

    1/1 paintwork

I'm working on an old Honda CB750 for a guy who brings me a fair amount of bike stuff. The whole thing was stripped to either bare metal or plastic, suitably repaired and primed, then prepared for painting. He wanted a light red candy, so after formulating some suitable paint, I made a start...

    1/1 paintwork

I seem to be posting more than my fair share at the moment. Please tell me if it gets annoying 😁 I finished painting the above Scooby and it's back at the dealer, who is rebuilding it before I pop down to give it a final polish over. Looking good already, if I say so myself

    Request

Thanks Steven, but I've got far too much on to consider commission work at the moment . Maybe one day in the future when I've got to grips with things better 😁

Looking good John, bring on the wet stuff 😎

    You can't park there mate!

After a bit of trimming I got the craft paints out to put down some background colours. I don't have any brown but made something work.

    HST paint job

I'm the same Tim, I'm not normally too bothered about exact matches but he's going to have the two trains running on the same layout, so I ought to get it at least closer lol. Until I get the green sorted I've made a start on some of the other colours, starting with the yellow nose. I'm using...

    You can't park there mate!

Thanks Tim. Practicing on some of the unsuitable figures in the kit has definitely shown scraping and sanding create a right old mess 🤣 The freezer trick helped with cutting, but of course they are so small that it doesn't take long for them to warm up in the hand. I'll crack out a fresh...

    HST paint job

Thanks guys. The spoon is much closer to the real life pictures I've seen too Tim, even given the potential variables of working from online images, so it's good to hear that it's the same in the flesh. I'm not sure if Hornby have included some kind of scale effect, or whether it's just the...

    You can't park there mate!

Thanks Paul. I've now edged the base in an appropriate material. I'll trim it once the glue has dried. If you look carefully, you might spot someone's name...

    HST paint job

I'm still pottering along with this one. I put the ball in my mates court and he's managed to find some rub-on transfers, so I resumed work. A lot of fiddling saw me finally removing most of the windows and after some sanding & masking they are now in primer In the foreground you'll see...

    You can't park there mate!

Thanks guys. I took a chance on them but I think these ones fit the scene pretty well. Some of the others in the set would look a bit strange though 😂 Heat is an option Steven, or maybe I'll try putting them in the freezer to see if it makes them more workable.

    1/16 ATA pilot Maureen Dunlop

That's brilliant Tony, very impressive indeed!

    You can't park there mate!

So, some figures turned up and I think I can work with their poses. Unfortunately, they're moulded in some weird, rubbery plastic that neither cuts, scrapes or sands well, so clean up is going to be a challenge!

    Adventures in resin 3D printing

A quick one to show how easy it is to resize an item. The little Gustav type robot was cute but I wanted something bigger to paint, so simply scaled it up by 300% in the Elegoo software. It needs some clean up where I've removed the support structure but I'll let it bathe in the sun whilst I'm...

    Bulldozer Komatsu G40, 1:48. Tamiya

That's coming along very nicely! I looked into the name discrepancy when I built mine. The company is Komatsu, but the real bulldozer is badged up Komatu, like the model. It's a few years ago but I remember it was something to do with the translation from Japanese, where "tu" and "tsu" are...

    Adventures in resin 3D printing

Post processing - Washing & Curing So we have our sticky model, what now? One way resin printing differs from filament is that it needs extra work after the printing has finished. Firstly we need to clean off any uncured resin that's stuck to the model. There are resins that can be cleaned...
