    Rick’s Airfix (ex-Academy) 1/35 Tiger 1

This is the Airfix boxing Dave. The instructions didn’t reference an engine, but then again they were pretty vague. I had a quick look at Scalemates - https://www.scalemates.com/kits/airfix-a1364-tiger-i-late-version--1190303

    Rick’s Airfix (ex-Academy) 1/35 Tiger 1

Built out of the box with a bit of weathering which I didn’t want to too far with. I figured that German armour in the week after D-day would still have been in relatively good condition. So, no leaks, spills, rust or chipping. This is my first 1/35 tank in nearly 40 years so I’m aware it...

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Chinook HC1 - Bravo November - a dream sheet build

The decal sheet - very well printed Above is the IR jammer from Airfix’s Sea King HC4 (common to the HAR3 boxing too I think but not used) this is on the clear sprue. Below is the Chinook version - parts 13 & 14.

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Chinook HC1 - Bravo November - a dream sheet build

Next on the bench will be Airfix’s brand new tool Chinook HC1 in the BN markings. The only Chinook that made it to the Falkland Islands in one piece, of the others embarked for the journey south one was off loaded at Ascension while the other three were lost on Atlantic Conveyor. Bravo November...

Just in for my Stuka and this months AMW with a build article on Airfix’s new Chinook (AKA flying death banana). I’m contemplating getting one and doing it as 684 or 712 cab when attached to 230 sqn in Northern Ireland.

    Rick’s 1/48 ICM Dornier Do17z-2

I’ve hit a road block with this. I haven’t just misplaced a part, I’ve only gone and mislaid and entire sprue! The one with the pitot probe, and it was the last part on it too. So I added the last bits I could and have set it aside to dry and come back to it later. Scratch making a replacement...

    Rick’s Airfix 1/48 Ju-87R2 Stuka - a rite of passage build

Now that the Do-17 is all but finished my eldest daughter chose this as my next build. There are a number of kits or subjects that I have as a “rite of passage” build. Something that I always wanted to do but never had the pocket money, skills or time. Or maybe something that my dad built with...

    Rick’s 1/48 ICM Dornier Do17z-2

How do you get the wheels on without damaging the painted tyres? If only a wheel change was this easy in real life! Gently squeeze the shock struts at the top to open out the axle end. Easy when you’re a landing gear expert (ahem!).

    Doug's 1/48 Airfix Sea King

Will you be adding the ice accretion rod Doug? Did your SK’s have a speedtape strip applied along the keel to fuselage angle under the main door? RAF cabs had this applied to protect the airframe from the hoist cable.

    Doug's 1/48 Airfix Sea King

It looks like you may have missed the crewmans grab rail above the cabin door, Doug. The instructions don’t show it but it’s in the kit. I think it’s an omission from the instructions because every cab I’ve seen has it fitted.

    Airfix 2024

My copy of this months Airfix Model World arrived today with a feature on Airfix’s new Chinook HC1. I was curious to read about there being a “lowered/raised undercarriage” option! I often found myself wondering where the landing gear selector lever was in a Chinook cockpit when doing brakes on...

    Movie Memphis Belle Help

Coincidentally, I was looking at Memphis Belle yesterday in the USAF museum in Dayton. I’ll be going back again this week if there is anything you’d like a photo of. Peter is spot on about the nose art colours. Current (and perhaps correct) nose art in these photos.

A little bit of mud. I. imagining this kite as operating from a muddy grass airstrip.
