    Impasse

Green stuff added: My Chambers dictionary defines 'Impasse' as: a situation from which further progress is impossible; a deadlock, stalemate. So: For the 'ologists' - I know! If it makes you feel happier, imagine this as a deleted scene from one of the 'Jurassic Park' films! :smiling:

    Impasse

OK. Now for the magic bit! first I mixed up three very thin washes with these: Then splash on the first colour (I used that magnificent brush you've already seen) anywhere you like, regardless of where it runs; I covered quite a bit as I wanted a fairly light colour overall. I followed...

    Tamiya putty

Hi folks. PJ used some Tamiya putty to fill a seam on his Mustang build. He added the putty last week and has just tried to sand it smooth. Problem is, it's not fully set. Anyone got any ideas why? It's been sat in my lounge all week so it's not been exposed to any cold or damp conditions.

    Impasse

While waiting for the filler to set up, I thought I'd prepare some 'grass'. Start with some faux fur. Spread a little common or garden housepaint using tiny little spots of paint on your fingers - making sure it's well rubbed in and spread around. And you get this: I may have to go...

    Impasse

OK. Got all the rocks done. Waiting now for the filler to set before I trim the box sides. I'll have to seal the foam with a PVA/water mix as the washes I'll be using to colour the rocks would otherwise soak into it. I don't know if that would have any effect but no point taking chances.

    Impasse

Take 2. I thought I had enough rocks already cast to create the groundworks - I didn't. There were too many gaps that needed to be filled. Rather than struggle to remove bits I'd already fixed using 'No More Nails', which would have broken either the foam or the cast rocks or both, I scrapped...

    Chop/Mitre saw

Hi guys. Has anyone ever used a mini benchtop chop/mitre saw similar to this: I still have big problems making square cuts and thought something like this would help. It looks OK for small section wood and metal, but I suspect the cutting speed of 7800 rpm is more likely to melt plastic...

    Impasse

OK. Box is finished (rough and ready but it will all be covered and strengthened when I add the rocks using Hard as Nails and more plaster of Paris). I can start with the groundworks when the PVA has set. And the reason I have to get the vacuum cleaner out once the neighbours are up and...

    Impasse

Got the box done. Stuck with PVA glue with dressmaking pins pushed in at various angles to hold the sides in place (they will be removed later): The PVA was splashed on and spread about more or less evenly using one of my superb brushes: Once the PVA has dried I got to do some mejurin'...

    Impasse

Most of my dios have unfinished sides and edges. I'm going to try and produce something a bit tidier and with that in mind, I need to build a box. I have a piece of 6mm MDF for a base and I'll use some 10mm extruded foam for the sides. As the foam will have to support the rocks made from...

    Impasse

I still haven't worked out a way to build the tracks on my little fire engine, so just as a little diversion, I've come back to my favourite sort of build - a diorama. I built the figures for this some years ago and I've worked out the best way to show them over the last few days. I won't show...

Gern's Emergency services GB - Chat thread

Tricky one that Steve. Eight figures would normally definitely constitute a diorama - but what if they're soldiers sitting in the back of a troop carrier sat on a road? It would also depend on how much scenery you put on your base. The problem with this sort of idea is that your model would be...

Gern's Revell 1/35 GTK Boxer sgSanKfz

OK folks. This will be my entry for this GB. I'll post proper sprue shots when I start the build.

    Gern's 1/72 PST PMZ-2 Fire Engine

Nearly there! Just a couple of extra bits plus the tracks to do (and a few bits of touch up paint)

    999 GB

Those watching the half-track GB will know I'm working on an old Russian fire engine (I'll have some pics later today). While in 'fire engine' mode, I had a thought for a GB topic. As the title suggests, what about a build for any vehicle which would answer a 999 emergency call - or the...

    Gern's 1/72 PST PMZ-2 Fire Engine

Got the chassis ready for paint: Many thanks to Dave Ward for sending me pics of the cab layout on his 1/35 version. I've added three levers - gear stick, handbrake (from Dave's pictures) and a shifter to switch the diff. from tracks to water pump (pure guesswork on my part). I have no idea...

    This any good Rick?

    Gern's 1/72 PST PMZ-2 Fire Engine

You can breath again Rick. Not only did I find the parts, but I also fixed the broken bit. It's also starting to look a bit fire enginy after a bit of paint: Looks like I missed a bit inside the cab but I'll sort that with my next lot of red.
