Some good stuff on show at Shuttleworth: More to come. Pete

    Pete's Spitfire Vc

I'm now on some medication to try to control my shakiness, and it seems to be having some effect. I've managed to get the canopy and wheel wells masked and have started some painting: Pete

    Brian's 1/100 HMS Victory

Not quite sure how it's supposed to fit: Pete

    HMS Hermes and her aircraft

This popped up on my feed: Sea Vixens, Scimitars, Gannet... Pete

    Pete's Spitfire Vc

Made a little more progress: Wing and tail fit was good, as expected, and the canopy clicked into place as it should - it fits pretty well but I put a bead of Formula 560 around the cockpit sides to reduce the chance of overspray on the inside of the canopy. Had an encounter with the dentist...

Midland Air Museum (Coventry) December 2023 part 3

More of the 1:1 exhibits It's a nice little museum, but better when the weather is kinder. Pete

Midland Air Museum (Coventry) December 2023

Forgot to take a camera with me, so these were taken on a phone I'd only had since the day before the show. That's the first 20... Pete

Welcome to Papa695's Bi plane GB. Chat thread

He'd also hand painted lozenge camo: Sorry, I thought I'd photographed the rigging and the motorbike, but apparently not - my new phone had other ideas. Pete

    Pete's Spitfire Vc

I haven't done much on this (or anything else) recently as I've got the shakes again, quite badly. I have a doctor's appointment for the 29th of December to check it out, but I expect that will result in a referral to a neurologist which could take a few months. I've also been a bit...

    Brian's 1/100 HMS Victory

In rough weather, I'd imagine the risk of tripping over a rope crossing the gundeck is far lower than being in this situation: See the dummy figure at about 2 o'clock. Scary! Pete

    Brian's 1/100 HMS Victory

No, actually Tim, it was the longer barrel. Here's the photo, sorry it's not clearer. That does show the lead apron though, which I hadn't noticed previously! I turned off the camera flash, since I find other people's camera flashes annoying when I'm visiting somewhere like this, but that meant...

    Brian's 1/100 HMS Victory

This is the best pic I have showing the other side of a similar gun: Incidentally. one of the display boards around the ship states that when a long 12 pounder was fired, the force on the breeching rope and on the ship's side was about 6 tons! Victory carried 30 of them, so in a broadside...

    Latest Acquisitions (2023)

A few souvenirs from the show at the Midland Air Museum today: a few paints some 'extras': No, I'm not going to buy any more kits. Definitely not. Hang on, a Tempest for £6? It had to be done! Pete

    Pete's Spitfire Vc

Now the Hunter is off the bench I need to try something that hopefully will be a bit better, so here's my next build: Yes, I've been extravagant again - £4 from a charity shop. All parts still in the sealed bags, but the brush was missing - no great loss. Nice fine engraved detail, and an...

    Pete's Black Arrows Hawker Hunter

Here's my Hunter, built as one of the 111 Squadron Black Arrows display team. Not a bad kit I suppose considering its age, but not very well built or painted, partly due to me being ill near the start of the build. The worst thing I can blame on Airfix is the canopy, which had almost no visible...

    Pete's Black Arrow

Oh well, this isn't going to get any better so I'm calling it finished. Not an enjoyable kit to build, but I could/should have built it a lot better. More photos in the Finished section. Pete
