    Pete's Black Arrow

That's better: Second coat of Galeria drying at the moment. I'll take a couple more photos later before it goes in the bin. Pete

    Pete's Black Arrow

I should have researched more carefully. The instructions seem to suggest that both parts of the U/C doors are attached to the U/C leg, but only the curved part is - the mostly rectangular bit is angled outwards, and overlaps the curvy bit. Second photo is mine, taken at Sywell. More work to...

    Pete's Black Arrow

Oh dear. For some reason that I've forgotten, I left the main gear wheels off, probably to save masking them. Just fitted them and only now realised why there are two locating points in the semicircular part of the bay doors - the wheels don't reach the ground, but the bay door does! The nearer...

    Latest Acquisitions (2023)

Many happy returns young Neil! I've been dragged around the charity shops again today. I don't need any more Airfix starter sets, but it would have been rude to pass this up: Pete

    Pete's Black Arrow

The frames came out acceptable. I should have left the masking on until after the clear coat though. I'll have to mask the canopy again. Pete

These arrived yesterday from ebay, via China... Nail art dotting tools, as someone mentioned in another thread for applying glue. The ball ends range from 1mm to 3mm. £2.89 delivered! Pete

    Pete's Black Arrow

Good suggestion Colin, thanks. I got fed up with the endless repetition of fill/sand/prime, so I decided that some of the many blemishes will just have to remain, and gave it a couple of coats of Tamiya Semi-gloss black. Looks a lot better less awful now it's all the same colour. Started with...

    Pete's Black Arrow

Sorry for the lack of updates folks. I'm still struggling with some health issues since having a dose of Covid in September. I'm also getting pretty fed up with this kit - as well as the problems getting the two halves of the fuselage to line up, the canopy doesn't fit the fuselage and is...

    Pete's Black Arrow

Well, the fuse halves are sort-of joined. This was like trying to glue a banana to a corkscrew! I had to use TET wherever the halves touched, and a lot of clamps. I've run a load of tuble glue on the inside of the join to strengthen it, as it's going to need a lot of sanding. Pete

    Pete's Black Arrow

Gosh, I haven't updated this for nearly a month! I'm over the worst of the Covid but still very tired and have the attention span of a goldfish. I've managed to make a tiny bit of progress on the Hunter: pilot is in, although he doesn't fit the seat very well, and the seat doesn't fit the...

    Pete's Black Arrow

Thinking of it Colin. The instructions state "IF STAND IS TO BE USED CUT AWAY WALL OF PLASTIC FROM STAND SLOT IN FUSELAGE UNDERSIDE" (yes, they do shout!) but they don't say where that 'stand slot' is! I think I can find it, but not sure. I want to have the gear down anyway, but I'd like to use...

    Pete's Black Arrow

The fuselage has a lot of sink marks, so I've been busy with Mr Dissolved Putty More sanding tomorrow I think. Luckily most of the sink marks aren't too near any moulded detail. The kit includes some nicely moulded bombs, rockets and external fuel tanks, none of which will be used as they...

    Pete's Black Arrow

Time I started another model! Originally intended to build one of the Airfix Red Arrows kits, but then came across this in the stash and thought why not one of the 111 squadron Black Arrows? This boxing seems to date from 1964, but the tooling is earlier! I can't remember where or when I bought...

Glad the site is back up John. Good suggestion to talk to the wife - I didn't know she doesn't work at Woolworth's now. Pete

    Pete's Academy M35 cargo truck

Completed this a little later than planned, had a few days off the bench with stomach problems. A nice kit to build - no major problems but the instructions a bit vague in places. I did a little light weathering, just a bit of chipping of the wooden bits, and a few washes, mostly Flory Dark...

    Pete's M35 truck. Academy 1/72

Well, this has moved on a bit: Clear coat tomorrow after the 1:1 has had an MOT test, then I'll throw some mud at this. Pete

    Pete's M35 truck. Academy 1/72

I joined those 3 subassemblies, and added a few more bits. The stowage boxes under the doors were completely open at the bottom, and too deep to fill with any of my usual fillers, so I mixed up some Milliput and filled them with that: Should have smoothed that out a bit better, but after...

    Pete's M35 truck. Academy 1/72

Haven't posted any updates for a while, sorry. Wife's knee replacement was cancelled - we'd elected to have it done on the NHS but at a private hospital that I used a couple of times when my employer gave me medical insurance. However, they don't have emergency care facilities so they decided...
