Looking a lot better after stripping the stynylrez and a coat of Mr Surfacer 1200. Unfortunately scrubbing off the crazed stynylrez with meths and cotton buds also removed some of the filler on the seams, so they need a bit more work. It'll come out OK though I think. Pete- stillp

Well, my modest haul from the Hinckley show today: A jar of Mr Surfacer 1200, because of the Stynylrez disaster on my Vampire, some Tamiya narrow cotton buds as I used most of the ones I had removing the Stynylrez..., 25 size 0 brushes for £15 - hardly worth cleaning them at that price, and... -

Most of my builds seem to involve a drama at some stage, and this one is no exception. I don't usually clean models before painting, or prime them, but as I'd sprayed most of the Vampire with a very old jar of Tamiya Flat Aluminium which seemed to have 'gone off', I thought I'd better do both...- stillp

Made a bit more progress today. The tail boom assembly looked really scary but actually went quite well. Needed a smear of PPP along the wing roots, but that's done now, as well as adding the main gear doors. Hopefully I should be able to put some primer on tomorrow. Pete- stillp

Filling done and sanded, and wing attached to fuselage - the trouble with a one piece upper wing is that there are so many places where the fit can be a bit less than desired. The intakes could really do with being a little further back, but I might be able to sand them back a bit when the...- stillp

The twins are now in their office: That tiny trim wheel is of course totally invisible! I had to carve a bit off the crew's legs to get the dashboard in, but apart from that everything fitted perfectly. The instructions specify 7 grams of nose weight. I haven't done any modelling since I scrapped that Patton tank - lost a bit of mojo, and got distracted by a new (to me) car as well as getting the gearbox and overdrive rebuilt in my Triumph. Well, this thing nearly got binned yesterday. The turret didn't want to fit, so I had to sand quite a bit of the bottom as well as removing some of the stubs that fit into the upper hull - probably the wrong word, the bits that stick out so the turret has a bayonet fitting into the hull.
