    Pete's Vampire T11

The Vampire woes continue... I gave it a couple of coats of Mr Color aluminium, thinned with their standard thinners. Left it a few days to make sure it was really dry. Started masking this morning, and noticed a silver thumbprint on the first piece of tape I put down. Looked at my fingers, and...

    Pete's Vampire T11

Looking a lot better after stripping the stynylrez and a coat of Mr Surfacer 1200. Unfortunately scrubbing off the crazed stynylrez with meths and cotton buds also removed some of the filler on the seams, so they need a bit more work. It'll come out OK though I think. Pete

And a few more: Sorry about the poor quality usual I forgot to take a camera and had to rely on my phone. Pete

    Hinckley show

Good show, great to meet up with Dave, Ian and Tony again. Some stunning models on the club stands, and plenty of choice from the traders. Just a few photos: Pete

    Latest Acquisitions (2023)

Well, my modest haul from the Hinckley show today: A jar of Mr Surfacer 1200, because of the Stynylrez disaster on my Vampire, some Tamiya narrow cotton buds as I used most of the ones I had removing the Stynylrez..., 25 size 0 brushes for £15 - hardly worth cleaning them at that price, and...

    Pete's Vampire T11

Most of my builds seem to involve a drama at some stage, and this one is no exception. I don't usually clean models before painting, or prime them, but as I'd sprayed most of the Vampire with a very old jar of Tamiya Flat Aluminium which seemed to have 'gone off', I thought I'd better do both...

    Pete's Vampire T11

Made a bit more progress today. The tail boom assembly looked really scary but actually went quite well. Needed a smear of PPP along the wing roots, but that's done now, as well as adding the main gear doors. Hopefully I should be able to put some primer on tomorrow. Pete

    Pete's Vampire T11

Filling done and sanded, and wing attached to fuselage - the trouble with a one piece upper wing is that there are so many places where the fit can be a bit less than desired. The intakes could really do with being a little further back, but I might be able to sand them back a bit when the...

    Pete's Vampire T11

Sanded the first layer of filler: Just a tiny bit more filler needed, so I added some Mr Dissolved Putty. Popped into a model shop that I know sells Mr Hobby paints, hoping to find some aqueous fluorescent orange, but that's been discontinued, so I had to settle for Mr Color. If I'm using...

FDM PLA 3D printing - with a model making inclination

This just popped up on another forum: Pete

    Pete's Vampire T11

Some progress; Started assembly of the jet intakes. The next stage is to add the one-piece upper wing, but I've just discovered the first serious problem with this kit - a large sink mark on each of the ailerons. They've had a skin of Humbrol filler, which I'll try to sand tomorrow. It's also...

    Pete's Vampire T11

I can see the pilots' seats and heads getting damaged, so I think I'm going to ignore the instructions and fit the canopy next before I do any more assembly. The clear parts will need masking sooner or later, so I might as well do it now: The frames are moulded crisply enough to be easy to...

    Pete's Vampire T11

The twins are now in their office: That tiny trim wheel is of course totally invisible! I had to carve a bit off the crew's legs to get the dashboard in, but apart from that everything fitted perfectly. The instructions specify 7 grams of nose weight. Just forward of the IP and the crew's feet...

This came up in my feed: I found the description of the steering interesting; I didn't realise they bent the tracks sideways. Pete

Plodding on with the identical twins and the cockpit: A couple more bits to add. I nearly forgot this one: Not very big is it. Full marks to Airfix for providing it instead of relying on the modeller buying etch. Pete

    Pete's Vampire T11

I haven't done any modelling since I scrapped that Patton tank - lost a bit of mojo, and got distracted by a new (to me) car as well as getting the gearbox and overdrive rebuilt in my Triumph. Had a clear out of completed models too, which made a tiny dent in the cost of the cars. Anyway, it's...

    Academy M48A3 Patton

Well, this thing nearly got binned yesterday. The turret didn't want to fit, so I had to sand quite a bit of the bottom as well as removing some of the stubs that fit into the upper hull - probably the wrong word, the bits that stick out so the turret has a bayonet fitting into the hull. The...

    Shuttleworth

I think the Shuttleworth show is this coming Sunday. I Won't be able to go though as I'm going to the MG and Triumph Spares day at Stoneleigh. A shame, the Shuttleworth model show is always good. Pete
