D-Day 80th anniversary sponsored walk (RBL)

Cheers Jim and thanks for the incentive, very nice :smiling4: Devonian groats, pasties even good old pound sterling Andy ;) Anyway first quarter of the total done today, walked from Whitby to Robin Hoods Bay and back as planned (25km) I don’t think I’ve ever walked so far in one go...

Welcome to Geoff’s D-Day 80th Anniversary tribute chat thread.

I’m away on holiday this week so won’t be able to start until I get back next week. Bad planning which would not have been tolerated on D-Day :flushed: Thought I would share what I intend to start with though. I’m going to build the “Tiffie” as in my mind it is one of the icons of D-Day and...

D-Day 80th anniversary sponsored walk (RBL)

Hello Chaps, I’ve signed up to take part in the Royal British Legion D-Day 80th anniversary sponsored walk to raise money for veterans. It involves walking 80km during June (not all in one go :smiling6:) which is apparently the combined length of the five D-day beaches. I have attached a link...

    Revell 1/72 P-47M Thunderbolt

After finishing my Hurricane group build entry I felt the urge to cut and glue some plastic while waiting for the D-Day GB to start. Nothing in the stash was calling out to me and not wanting to wait for anything to be delivered I popped into my local Hobbycraft. I wanted a quick out of the box...

Welcome to Geoff’s D-Day 80th Anniversary tribute chat thread.

Here you go Steve. Any of these have marking options applicable to D-Day. Some are available in Johns shop others you may have to do a bit of hunting around for. Geoff.

    Geoff’s 1/72 Arma Hobby Hurricane Mk.I

I’ve found pictures of SAAF Hurricanes in East Africa pretty thin on the ground but the ones I have found show quite heavily used, grubby aircraft. I’ve tried to recreate this using mostly oils but am not overly satisfied with the results. I’m calling it a day with the build now though before...

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

Saw an advert on Facebook the other day for this which arrived today :smiling3: Front Back While looking through the other products they do I saw this and couldn’t resist as it’s the plane flown by one of my heroes Eric Lock :smiling4: Front Back Very pleased with them both. Geoff.

    Geoff’s 1/72 Arma Hobby Hurricane Mk.I

I have managed to repair the damage suffered on the underside of the wing to a degree. First up was masking around the damaged area to try and protect the stencils. I had thought that as I had put a clear coat over them they would be fine…..wrong they came off as soon as I removed the masking...

    Geoff’s 1/72 Arma Hobby Hurricane Mk.I

I’ve hit a bit of a snag :confounded: Just finished spraying the propeller and wheels and popped the aircraft down in the spray booth ready for a flat coat to seal the transfers. I then realised I’d caught the one wing on the mixing pot I’d thinned the black paint in. Unfortunately I’d...

    Geoff’s 1/72 Arma Hobby Hurricane Mk.I

Hello chaps, Latest update. After the camouflage had had chance to cure I went over both the brown and green with a highly thinned mix of a lighter green and brown to fade it a bit. Once this had settled it was time for the transfers to go on. Not too many to put down and they all settled...

    D-day 80th anniversary tribute build - 5th June -Sept 24.

Hello chaps, On my previous thread regarding what I should build to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-day some of you expressed an interest in taking part in a D-Day group build so here it is. Allied subjects only as it’s a tribute build but any scale aircraft, AFV, vehicle, ship, figure...

D-day tribute build but which one?

Hello Chaps, I’ve nearly finished my Hurricane group build entry so am thinking of my next build. With the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings a month away I’d like to build something to honour that. I’ve got a few candidates in the stash but can’t decide which to go for. I’ve put up...

    Geoff’s 1/72 Arma Hobby Hurricane Mk.I

More progress to report Underside has been painted with AK Real Colors RC-290 RAF Sky. Once dry it was all masked off then the upper fuselage camo applied using AK Real Colors -287 RAF Dark Earth and RC286 RAF Dark Green. Masking on. Masking off :smiling3: I’m pleased with out it’s...

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

Latest purchases. I had the Matchbox 1/32 version years ago but didn’t have the skills to do it justice, I want to do this in the same scheme. What better for a Summer build on the 80th anniversary of D-Day :smiling3: Geoff.

    Geoff’s 1/72 Arma Hobby Hurricane Mk.I

Bit more done :smiling4: I’m going to try some hairspray chipping on it so first thing was a coat of Vallejo Metal Colors Dull Aluminium followed with a coating of Tamiya Semi Gloss varnish to seal it in. As you can see it’s mainly around the areas likely to suffer from chipping damage, the...

    Geoff’s 1/72 Arma Hobby Hurricane Mk.I

Latest progress :smiling: Not very exciting but necessary stages along the way. Navigation and landing lights added and masked. Cockpit canopy also added and masked and all the seams cleaned up. The pre-cut mask set was a great help to speed this stage up a bit, had to use masking fluid for...

    Geoff’s 1/72 Arma Hobby Hurricane Mk.I

Thank you Andrew, Lee and Andy :thumb2: I managed a bit more progress today. i struggled to get the cockpit crammed in and it all buttoned up with minimal gaps. I had to cheat in the end and leave this bit out  It seemed too wide and the two fuselage halves would not close up...
