Done. Forgot to fit the tail rotor for the photos🙄

Rick’s Airfix 1/72 Sea King HC4, Operation Banner, RAF Aldergrove, Northern Ireland

Marking out for aerial attachments and floor fixtures. I have to be careful here as there are slightly different defensive aids fitted to NI cabs compared to the ones in the kit instructions; some might need scratch making. The troop seat layout needs a bit of adjustment. Airfix didn’t include...

Rick’s Airfix 1/72 Sea King HC4, Operation Banner, RAF Aldergrove, Northern Ireland

Some reference material and build notes. Does anyone else keep a note of their builds as they go?

Rick’s Airfix 1/72 Sea King HC4, Operation Banner, RAF Aldergrove, Northern Ireland

This kit is jumping the queue for my club swap shop GB. I’ve been wanting to do a Northern Ireland based SK for a while and it was toss up between doing this or a Phantom. Since I drew this for the GB I’m kinda obliged to build it now. I won’t bother with sprue shots, just the box lid and...

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Phantom FGR2 - in the hangar.

This is my next build but definitely not an out of the box construction. The kit. This has the parts for an FGR2. The extra sprue for this version. The aftermarket. Etched brass and paint mask from Eduard but some of the ejection seat stuff might not get used. The reason is a mix of...

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Chinook HC1 - Bravo November - a dream sheet build

Masking off. Just adding the delicate bits that are easily knocked off…like the wheels! Both of the rotor head are done and ready to fit. I still have the HF aerial masts and pitots to fit. The ramp is done and ready to install including some plastic rod to mimic the ramp actuator pistons.

    Rick’s Airfix 1/48 Ju-87R2 Stuka - a rite of passage build

All painted and masking removed. I hate MIG Ammo paint, it’s so fragile and peels off with masking. Some touch up before the next step.

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Chinook HC1 - Bravo November - a dream sheet build

Deathship decals applied. All the aircraft serials, roundels and sqn decals done. Al of the RH side stencils and most of the walkways are applied. Only the LH side, engine and blade decals to do. I hope to have this done for the IPMS Stoke show next weekend. A point to note: the fin flashes...

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Chinook HC1 - Bravo November - a dream sheet build

Back to the bench after holiday and business travel and I’ve applied the black underside and rotors with Tamiya XF-69 NATO black. The rotors got a slapdash application of XF-1 flat black for a bit of a weather beaten effect. The first coat of varnish applied (Mig paint is soooo fragile). A...

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

I’ve been after one of these for a while for a project I have in mind. They’re difficult to find for sensible prices in the UK so finally bit the bullet when I saw this.

    Another Airfix flash sale

Yet another flash sale from Airfix. Just what is going on for them to be knocking these kits out in sales? I’d be mighty peeved as a vendor if my supplier was undercutting my RRP prices...

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Chinook HC1 - Bravo November - a dream sheet build

Now with paint. The grey/green is on, in this photo there is some masking tape applied where a touch up is required. Next step is to mask a wavy line for the black underside.
