    Gary's Academy 1/48 scale Wildcat F4F-F

After building 7 1/72nd jets in a row I thought it was time for a change. The Academy Wildcat took my eye, so I thought I would have a go at it. It is relatively new tool, with lovely detail and a good fit. PE parts are included for the seat as well as masks for the canopy and wheels. The...

Airfix 1/72nd scale Blackburn Buccaneer S.2C

Thanks Steve! It is pretty amazing what Gemini can do with a photo, but sometimes it does play tricks on you so you have to be pretty specific and tell it not to alter your own photo. Even so on one image it has sneaked pilots into the cockpit even though my model does not have them!

Airfix 1/72nd scale Blackburn Buccaneer S.2C

Thanks! I guess I'll have to think about getting an airbrush at some stage, but at the moment I'm quite content to brush paint. It does take some time though and of course there are some finishes you just can't do with the hairy stick!

Airfix 1/72nd scale Blackburn Buccaneer S.2C

This was my third Airfix kit in a row (Sea Harrier, Lightning F6 and then this one) so now I think it's time for a change. Going to have a go at a 1/48 scale WWII model, namely the F4F-4 Wildcat from Academy. Should make a change after all the fast jets I have been building since getting back...

Airfix 1/72nd scale Blackburn Buccaneer S.2C

Thanks chaps! And here is the almost obligatory Gemini generated images of my model on the flight deck of the HMS Ark Royal

Airfix 1/72nd scale Blackburn Buccaneer S.2C

I though I would just share some photos of my first finished model for this year, namely the Airfix 1/72nd scale Blackburn Buccaneer S.2C. Hand painted using a combination of Vallejo and AK acrylic paints and varnishes. It was built straight out the box apart from the additional of a Kelik 3D...

    Airfix 1/72nd Lightning F6

Thanks again chaps! Could not resist posting these couple of Gemini composite photos - think they are both better than the last one

    Generating AI backgrounds with Gemini.

The background in this one is clearly generated - look at the aircraft just to the front of the tail fin of my F6 Lighning. It does not look like any real aircraft I can think of!

    Generating AI backgrounds with Gemini.

I think Gemini generates the background image itself, as the seem to be a bit generic and the aircraft in my examples don't look 100% real - see the attached photo. I have found it helps also to tell Gemini not to rotate or transform the source photo and to produce an Ultra HD image.

    Airfix 1/72nd Lightning F6

As a follow up to the original set of photos, here is a shot of the undersides.

    Airfix 1/72nd Lightning F6

Just a few photos of my latest completed model, the Lightning F6 from Airfix in 1/72nd scale. As usual paint(AK and Vallejo acrylics) slapped on with a hairy stick. It's built straight from the box excepting the long pitot tube which I replaced with a 3rd party brass version. Kit went...

    Airfix 1/72 Sea Harrier FA2

Thamks! It's pretty cool what can be done with Gemini. I rather like this one of my F18D

    Airfix 1/72 Sea Harrier FA2

Thought I would share this AI generated image of the same model, just for your entertainment!

    Airfix 1/72 Sea Harrier FA2

So here is my completed Airfix 1/72 FA2 Sea Harrier. As usual with my builds it is hand painted with AK and Vallejo acrylics, with weathering done using Flory Models weathering wash. The kit itself was somewhat of a mixed bag. There were a large number of sink marks on the fuselage and wings...

    Airfix 1/72 Sea Harrier FA2

Filing a flat on the outrigger tires has helped a lot. It's not perfect but I can live with how it is now!

    Airfix 1/72 Sea Harrier FA2

Nearly there! Although it seems to have succumbed to the problem that often occurs with Harrier models in that my main wheels are a fraction to short....:o:o:o

    Airfix 1/72 Sea Harrier FA2

A bit more progress today. Extra coat of matt varnish, jet exhausts and u/c fitted (except the outriggers). I forgot to add in my first post that for some reason Airfix did not include the two small, but prominent, auxiliary air intakes just behind the canopy. I made ended up making these from...

    Airfix 1/72 Sea Harrier FA2

After putting the Phantom aside for a while I thought I would build something a bit simpler, namely the Sea Harrier FA2. As it turned out the build was not so simple as I had hoped! The kit was a bit of a disappointment with serious sink marks on the fuz and along the top leading edge of the...

    Gary's Fujimi 1/72 Phantom FGR.2 'Firebird'

Hi Miko Totally agree with you that an airbrush is the way to go if you want a better finish. During my first scale modelling period, 30 years ago, I always used one. Then I stopped when I moved abroad, got married, and then work and other hobbies (r/c aircraft and helicopters) filled the...
