Painting parts prior to assembly, yes or no?

I don’t think I’ve ever painted anything on the sprue, mostly for the reasons Andy has already given. I do, however, build sub assemblies, paint them, and then final assemble as required. In effect, I do whatever I feel needs to be done to make the job easiest and most effective. Certainly...

    Latest Acquisitions (2026)

Never seen one of those before Bob. I have occasionally thought about taping a plastic sheet across the front of my spray booth to shut the front down after spraying, but haven’t got around to it yet. Trouble is, most of the dust probably gets pulled in by the airflow in the spray booth so not...

    Andy's 1/144 Spitfire Mk1a

Looks a fun little build. I remember Ron Spanner doing a couple of these tiddlers a few years ago, Russian I 16s I think. He loved ‘em. Haven’t seen him around for ages though.

Go evergreen. You won’t be disappointed.

    Advice needed re: window frames

No worries Johnners. When I started, slaters was all you could get 😁. I believe they used to buy 8 by 4 sheets of a product called Bextrene and clip it up, package it, and sell it to modellers. I bought a big bundle of offcuts at a show once and used it for ages. These days I prefer Evergreen...

Best manufacturers for plastic card in the UK are Evergreen or Slaters. John in the scale model shop stocks Evergreen plastic sheet. Slaters can be bought here...

    1:43 SCALE.

British O gauge model railways are made to 1/43 scale so try suppliers of that railway scale Tony. Should be a lot out there, but only of UK (mostly railway) outline. It’s also called 7mm (to the foot) scale by railway enthusiasts. Continental and US gauge O are made to 1/48, as Lee says, so...

New from SMS Vallejo Wet Palette B90001

Interesting. This looks almost exactly like the Redgrass Games Studio XL palette I’ve been using for several years, right down to the headband closer. I wonder if it’s being made under licence?

    Tank weathering advice

I would say some artists pastels are useful as well, but it does depend on how happy you are at mixing colours, so do make up your own mind.

    Advice needed re: window frames

Superglue will be fine for the plasticard, though it can leave a residue that may need cleaning up. I would also check the foam board is compatible with it because it can melt really quickly. I haven’t used foam board that much, but have always used PVA as it’s pretty forgiving. I have held...

    Tank weathering advice

Hi Steve. Welcome to the site. That question is a bit like “how long is a piece of string” 😉. Best advice I can give for this is as follows: Find a picture of the tank you have in the condition you want to replicate. After that, watch a few vids on YouTube that show weathering being done...

    Advice needed re: window frames

Hi bud. Cutting 1 mm or 0.5 mm is pretty much the same thing, though 1 mm will need more passes with the knife to break through. Plasticard is easily rigid enough to allow you to cut cleanly and with straight edges, though I would ensure I used a new blade to maximise accuracy. I would also...

    The Smythemeister's Bf109 G-10

Looking good Andy. Funny about the old square foot bench though. I too have a decent sized spare room, with both a build bench and a paint bench. Almost everything is wall hung to give maximum real estate, but there’s usually only about a square foot to use on both of ‘em 😂

That’s a good ten foot shelf to show it off at 10 cars. That will be very cool. Nice one 👍
