    Tonys Airfix fw 190 a8

Windscreen now fitted and masked so it was out with the primer .The closed undercarriage option pieces Airfix have provided were great for masking up the wheel bays , just a little bit of sponge needed adding at the inboard ends. The primer will show up if anything needs fettling before the paint .

Before I give it a coat of gloss the front part of the cowling and the nose ring can go on , these were painted separately to avoid a tricky mask up

Mottle now on , next up a coat of Klear ready for the decals .

    Tonys Airfix fw 190 a8

Wings now on and the two panels on the top of the fuselage are fitted . The Airfix kit features machine guns on the nose - the Eduard kit has these faired over and the decal option i’m intending to use for this from the Eduard kit also features faired over gun troughs . Do for the second build...

Yellow and red now on , next step is to apply the mottle

    Tonys Airfix fw 190 a8

Started to get the airframe together , starting with the wing top and bottom . The instructions say to fit the cannons and machine guns between the top and bottom but I just know they would get knocked off .So like the Eduard build the base of the cannons was cut off , fitted and drilled out so...

RLM 74 now on and unmasked ready for the mottle , BUT - with the drama of the new halfords primer I forgot that I should have primed the fuselage band white and sprayed the yellow and red before any camo went on . So , the band was masked and primed ready for the yellow .

    Tonys Airfix fw 190 a8

Seems like quick progress but I actually started this a few days ago but only just got round to starting the thread. Cockpit is now done , very nicely done by Airfix - not a thousand separate pieces but enough to give a very good representation ,the instrument panel decal being very effective ...

    Halfords Grey Primer —heads up

Just a quick heads up to anyone who uses Halfords grey primer from the rattle can . Its something I use a lot for the priming of my models and has always performed flawlessly - giving a smooth uniform finish ,hardwearing , great adhesion of subsequent colour coats etc BUT —- I got a new can the...

    Tonys Airfix fw 190 a8

I mentioned earlier that I had the Airfix fw190 starter set and that I might get it going alongside the Eduard build so here it is . Its one ive built before and is a really nicely done kit. The detail is excellent for this scale and it builds up without any problems . The only downside to this...

After giving the underneath and fuselage sides a coat of Rlm 76 the airframe was masked up and a light coat of Rlm 75 applied .

Got this ready for primer now . The rear canopy is one of the unused spares provided , just tacked on to mask the cockpit during painting. The front part of the cowling and nose ring have been left off too , reason being the cowling front is painted Rlm 02 and the nose ring Rlm 74. ( see camo...

Wing tops now on and as mentioned , apart from the seam on the wing leading edge no further attention required . The thought that has gone into the design of this kit is amazing . Eduard have made sure the majority of the joints fall on actual panel lines and the precision of the fit combines to...

    Tonys Eduard 1/72 Fw190A-8

As this kit is so precise its vital to test fit before gluing , sometimes even a coat of paint on mating surfaces can make a difference . In this case a dry fit showed that the undercarriage bay insert needed a slight sanding to close up the joint on the cowling. Now the wing bottom is fitted...

Fuselage now glued and drying . The undercarriage wells have been assembled and painted , the cannons that go through the wells have been left out though . I fitted a couple of small pieces of brass tube to the rear spar so I can fit the cannons after painting ( they would be bound to get...

Cockpit tub now complete . The side console/ lower instrument panel PE piece was folded and glued to the tub . There were a couple of PE handles and a lever that are absolutely tiny , less than half a mm ! How I managed to fit these without losing them and with a microscopic contact point for...

    Revell P51B mustang 1/72 completed

Heres another one I didnt do a build log for . Its the Revell p51b mustang , one of the two kits I got as a job lot - one without decals which I used the wing from for the italeri P51a build and this one which was complete . Its a great little kit , nice recessed panel lines , reasonable...

Special hobby 1/72 bf109g-6 Finnish Air force

Heres the Special Hobby bf109g-6 in post war Finnish air force livery . I didnt do a build log but it was a nice kit , very nicely detailed with PE and resin extras. The cockpit was really nice but shame it doesn't offer an open canopy . The model is finished in the special markings of a machine...

    Tonys Eduard 1/72 Fw190A-8

Got started on this today . Its a very detailed kit with some fiddly little parts so constant reference to the instructions is required to make sure you dont do anything out of order . The cockpit is quite small but in this profipack boxing is half PE . After a prime everything was painted Rlm...

    Tonys Eduard 1/72 Fw190A-8

Hi all heres my contribution to this very poignant GB . Its the Eduard 1/72 FW190A-8. Its the Profipack version and I got it for a very reasonable £14 inc postage. As such it includes coloured photo etch , masks and five decal options . As is usual with Eduard there are loads of parts that are...
