    Latest Acquisitions (2026)

Since I'm doing more car models lately I thought I'd treat myself to a painting stand. This is similar to the Tamiya one but has more adjustment for different width bodies, and also height.

    1/32 Revell 1956 Cadillac Eldorado

Looking good Jim, that body certainly needed some persuasion by the looks of it.

    Peter's Airfix Spitfire Mk.1a - 1:72 - 90 Yrs of Spitfires GB

Great progress Peter. Good luck with the canopy!

SMS hyperchrome sealer and hyperchrome dark tone.

I would exercise caution in using the plastikote cans for this application. The majority of rattle cans include volatile solvents to let the product flow through the nozzle and prevent blockages. Such solvents would act as I described earlier, reactivating the chrome paint and dulling the effect.

Painting parts prior to assembly, yes or no?

I rarely paint anything on the sprue as there'll usually be gate nubs to deal with once it's been removed. I do sometimes prime though. As a rule I'll construct sub assemblies, stopping at the point where airbrushing would become difficult as I hate to leave bare spots, even if they'll never be...

SMS hyperchrome sealer and hyperchrome dark tone.

I would say so, as long as it's fully water based, not water/alcohol like some, or thinned with a product containing alcohol, like many acrylic thinners. As mentioned, aqua gloss works fine and I'm sure there are others out there.

SMS hyperchrome sealer and hyperchrome dark tone.

Ah yes, the strong solvent in that would have done it.

East of England (Peterborough) Show - 1st March 2026 - Pictures

Some very nicely presented models there, thanks for sharing! Like you, I love the tranny and that Phantom is epic. It makes me realise I still have a long long way to go 😆

    Andy's 1/48 Spitfire Mk1a

What a wonderfully well engineered kit! Don't get me wrong, there are some small and fiddly pieces, but everything fits together perfectly and logically. Starting with the seat, the flare rack (I think) is moulded into the plastic but it can be cut off and replaced with a PE version...

British Universal Bren Gun Carrier - Tamiya 1/35

    Very nicely done.

SMS hyperchrome sealer and hyperchrome dark tone.

I haven't used the sealer myself Tony , but love the chrome itself, however I do understand the chemistry behind it due to my job in automotive paint. The chrome works best when dusted on lightly, so that all of the tiny flakes lay flat. When a regular clear is added over the top it can...

Spitfire mk Vc...... Airfix 1/72.....90 years of spitfire GB

I'm glad you got it to fit. A little bit of plastic surgery does wonders some times...

I had a play around in Gemini. I'm still not sure whether we should consider this as cheating, but it does produce some cracking results. For the record, I simply added one of my finished images to Gemini and prompted it with "Tokyo night background"

    Peter's Airfix Spitfire Mk.1a - 1:72 - 90 Yrs of Spitfires GB

Brave work, I'm glad it turned out well. One tip I was give a while ago was to fill parts like that canopy with blutack or similar to give them support while cutting. Happily you didn't need it, but it may help next time.

    Andy's 1/72 Spitfire Mk1

Well Joe, it builds up very quickly as it happens! I got the cockpit built & painted earlier today Then the rest of it pretty much falls together. There's a bit of final sanding needed on some of the seams and then I can mask the canopy and give it some primer. The rest of the parts...

    Andy's 1/48 Spitfire Mk1a

Thanks for popping in chaps. I made a start on this today, building up the cockpit sides and whatever you call that bulkhead behind the seat. I lost the very first piece of PE for the tanks which doesn't bode well 😂, so replaced it with some copper wire. As you see here though, it won't stay...
