Richards Hurricane Airfix 1/72 GB build

Thanks Steven and Paul, apologies for the late reply. I have learnt a painful lesson...earlier in the build I had assembled the belly air scoop and dry fitted it and the fit was so good it stayed and I left it. After fiddling with the mods I discovered it had gone missing. Should have glued it...

    1/35 MARDER 111 Sd Kfz 7.62cm Pak 36 38 t By Tamiya

Building of the building looks good John. Oof...! Very generous with the glue there... Just curious, were you leveling the surface to get a good fit? I have the same kit and want to avoid this problem. Thank God there are photos and looking forwards to the Dio Cheers, Wabble

Richards Hurricane Airfix 1/72 GB build

Thanks Doug. I just couldn't leave things alone and scratched the external fuel tanks as per the reference given out of plastic tubing, thick plastic card and magic sculpt. Once the putty has cured I will add the rib straps where each tank had three each. This is the reference image from Scale...

Richards Hurricane Airfix 1/72 GB build

Thanks guys, Today found some time to fit and adjust the Hispano cannons to the wing edges before gluing them down with CA. I feel the outer guns should be a fraction further apart but I'm okay with it. Tempted to drill out the barrels but holding back...whose going to stare down at it anyway...

Richards Hurricane Airfix 1/72 GB build

Thought I'd reduce the size of the cooling vanes as previously they looked the same size as the fairing. Chucked it in my drill and used it like a lathe cutting it with files and a blade. Looking slightly better but not perfect...acceptable enough for me. Cheers, Wabble

Richards Hurricane Airfix 1/72 GB build

Initial puttying for the cooling vanes look pretty rough and over scaled but sanding and extending the barrel tip has made it a little better... Now it's only to fit it into the pre drilled holes and I can proceed with painting the primer and pre shading. Cheers, Wabble

Richards Hurricane Airfix 1/72 GB build

Today I started on the Hispano cannons and drilled the wing edges to fit it in. A little more work is needed to make the cooling vanes on the barrels from putty. The barrels are plastic rod and the fairings are from cutip handles. Cheers, Wabble

Richards Hurricane Airfix 1/72 GB build

Thank you both Andreas and Jim, I hope your confidence in my ability turns out something respectable.:smiling6: As it is most of it is eyeballing from references and guess measurements. I just couldn't leave a MkI as the owner showed me his reference of a MkIIc in the camo that he liked so I...

Richards Hurricane Airfix 1/72 GB build

Today I've cut to shape the prop blade extensions and dry fitted it to the spinner. Looks close enough so will go ahead with the puttying... Left it a little broad to take up any excessive sanding. Cheers, Wabble

Richards Hurricane Airfix 1/72 GB build

I have commenced with the prop modification gluing plastic strip to support the putty that will be spread on... This is the back. I will draw the shape and cut off the excess then spread the putty and sand when cured. Cheers, Wabble

Richards Hurricane Airfix 1/72 GB build

Thanks and yes Tony, it's a fine kit but only wished it was a MkII. Anyways I've puttied the chin scoop but have sanded it a little too rounded at the edges. From references it is a little boxy with more straight sides. The spinner was not that difficult to modify... I will re-putty the edges...

    Bombs Away

Apologies for taking so long to put up these images of my completed diorama which fetched a good at the recent MALCOM competition in Penang. Just slightly within over two months from conception to completion was this done and is a record for me. The ones that took me years weren't successful...

Richards Hurricane Airfix 1/72 GB build

It may look like that Paul but it still gives me the shivers attempting these scratches every time. It's always never a repeat so it's a new plan of approach and figuring out the best method. Today I fixed rough cuts of plastic card for ribbing, about five in a row and snipped the access off...
