Airfix 1/72 Hawker Typhoon 1b
Decals now all on and panel lines lightly accented . The rocket rails have been attached and its now had a couple of mist coats of matt varnish . Next is adding the undercarriage and exhausts then a bit of light exhaust staining. Heres the pic - illustrating the 1 square foot principle !- yak face

Latest Acquisitions (2026)
Got these two yesterday , ive been eyeing the revell 109 for ages and finally got it for a great price and the ESCI henschel is another ive wanted for a while. Almost fifty years old but it still looks good , even the decals look usable. -

Ah yes the old one square foot conundrum . I suffer with that too andy ,it gets so bad that I cant find any space to put anything down at all , thats the cue for a tidy up -then the encroachment starts again , its a non stop cycle !- yak face

Zvezda 1/72 40mm Bofors AA gun.
Only just caught this one jim , fabulous work . The bofors looks fantastic , the etch really lifts it . It was amazingly detailed for a 1/72 snap together kit but adding the etch makes it as detailed as a 1/35 . Base looks brilliant too , loving the drystone wall . Cheers tony- yak face

Beautiful work steven , the paintwork and weathering are unbelievable . Shame about the decals but it looks like you got it sorted in the end . This is going to be a stunning model , cheers tony- yak face

Cheers joe, Ive started to get the decals on now , I intended to use the decals for the yellow wing leading edges but they just wouldnt bend round so ive resorted to painting them- yak face

Well the replacement canopy arrived from Airfix , good customer service . On opening the packet though , the replacement has a few marks on it too 🙄. Its not as bad as the original just a few blemishes and what looks like a small scratch on the inside . Its now had a coat of Klear to hopefully...- yak face

AK Real Colours.
Ive just started experimenting with these Ian , like yourself I really like them . The ones ive got are in the plastic bottle , so far ive not experienced any nozzle splitting but its something I’ll keep an eye out for . Sounds like the glass bottles were much better , hopefully theyll take...- yak face

Making aerials from sprues...
Nice one dave , the chris ellis book is where I first learnt it from , on a school trip to the big library in town! ( back when school trips didnt cost anything ! Not like today - your average school trip nowadays is something like a weekend in Barcelona !!!!)- yak face

Masked up and sprayed the steel areas today - which highlighted the slightly melted exhaust cover plate . At first I though it would be ok but the more I compared it to the other side the worse it looked so it had to be sorted . Luckily its a separate stuck on piece , not part of the fuselage...- yak face

Making aerials from sprues...
Watch it peter , its addictive ! Easiest way is over a candle or tealight , then you can hold each end of the sprue , rotating it so it gets hot all round . Keep practicing youll soon have a boxfull of aerials and various diameter rods !- yak face

Airfix 1/72 Hawker Typhoon 1b
After masking up the undersides a coat of RAF ocean grey was applied over all the top surfaces then once dry ( 24 hr later ) the camo pattern was masked up and the dark green applied . Paints used were the excellent AK real color laquers , easy to use , not too smelly and touch dry in 5 mins...- yak face

Heads up - be quick !
Went to B&M bargains the other day and saw this Thought it might come in handy for large area masking ,however when I opened it and used it its just like Tamiya/kabuki tape - smooth ,easily cut , not too tacky . 25 metres on the rolls and 25 mm width its a real bargain . I just masked up the... -

Theres a few Tim , Eduard did a couple of instrument panels in 1/4 scale ( bf109 , bf110) which at that scale makes them about 20 cm wide . ESCI did a couple of 1/12 jet cockpits too ( f104 , f16 ) which I think have been reboxed by Italeri- yak face
