Blast from the past - Chota Sahib Gordon Highlander 1918

Hi all. I'm back from my six month sojourn in Cyprus and enjoying a couple of months of leave. The weather has been crap the last few days so I decided to revamp this wee fella. I think I painted him when I was about 16! Before and after a dettol bath and undercoat with Halford's best. And...

    Taking a short break.

Hi all, I'm afraid I'm going to have to take a short break from modelling as the Army have decided to send me to Cyprus for six months. I know, it's awful. No idea how I'll cope. Anyway, we start build up training in a week's time and then I'll be away until spring. I'll still be following and...

Windy's Char B1 Bis and FT 17 (1/76) Matchbox GB

Thanks guys. Couple more pics of the FT 17. Attaching the tow chain was a right fiddle! The only thing that really lets the kit down is the wretched rubber band tracks. Even after scrubbing vigorously with washing up liquid and an old toothbrush the paint tried to flake off. Plenty of mud hides...

Windy's Char B1 Bis and FT 17 (1/76) Matchbox GB

Finished quicker than I expected! Always wanted to build this one and for a kit that's nearly forty years old I'm pretty happy with it. Might add a couple more pictures later but I need to cook dinner first.

    Windy's Matchbox/Revell GB entry - Char B1 Bis and FT 17.

Nearly there now! The base is done, just needs a bit of mud on the tanks. I'll put the finished pictures in a new thread.

    Windy's Matchbox/Revell GB entry - Char B1 Bis and FT 17.

Really starting to come together now. As you can see in the background I've also made a start on the FT. Need to lighten the green and darken the sand though.

    Windy's Matchbox/Revell GB entry - Char B1 Bis and FT 17.

Did a bit of work on the FT 17 this morning. Added a tow chain, tools and a stowage box, and undercut the engine cover. Ready for primer now but it'll have to wait until later as the dogs keep looking at me hopefully!

    Windy's Matchbox/Revell GB entry - Char B1 Bis and FT 17.

That's the Char B1 ready for washes and weathering tomorrow. Decals are for a tank named Bourrasque and the camouflage pattern was taken from the Tamiya scheme for the same vehicle. Brush painted with Humbrol enamels - Green 150 and Ochre 94.

    Windy's Matchbox/Revell GB entry - Char B1 Bis and FT 17.

Bit of progress at last. Wretched things like work keep getting in the way! Figures are done, though they need a coat of matt varnish yet, and I've made a start on the B1. I decided I couldn't live with the kit antenna after all so I replaced it with a bit of wire. I also added a couple of hooks...

    Windy's Matchbox/Revell GB entry - Char B1 Bis and FT 17.

Char B done. It needed a lot more cleaning up than the Renault, as did the figures, but it went together with no issues. I was going to replace the antenna with a bit of wire but then I had a look at some original photos. The bloody things were like tree trunks! I might get them undercoated...

    Windy's Matchbox/Revell GB entry - Char B1 Bis and FT 17.

Hi all. Quick update. FT 17 built and ready for undercoating. It's a very simple little build and went together with no dramas. Char B next. The walls aren't glued to the base yet as I might widen the roadway a bit.

    Windy's Matchbox/Revell GB entry - Char B1 Bis and FT 17.

Hi all. The Dragon Churchill Mk IV has temporarily gone onto the shelf of doom while I work out what to do with the disastrous paint job, so here are my entries for the Matchbox GB. As promised I've got the Char B1 Bis and FT 17 which I've wanted to build for years. First off the box: Then...

    A Tale of Two Churchills

Grief! It's really been slow progress on this one. These bloody online courses have really sucked the life out of me! And now I've all my soldiers' annual reports to write too. My annual exercise in perjury! Anyway the Dragon Churchill IV is ready for final assembly and detail painting. Here...

Tonys matchbox build - LRDG chevrolet and jeep 1/76

Ooh nice! I built this one last year.

    A Tale of Two Churchills

Hi all. I'm afraid I've ground to a halt with the Sherman build. I don't know why but I just can't summon the enthusiasm to crack on with it. So as a mojo restorer and inspired by a series of original colour pictures, I dug out a PSC Churchill IV that I had in the stash. At the same time I...

Close up of the crew. I just love these AB figures.

    Sherman III - Heller 1/72 M4A2 conversion

Morning all. I haven't done any modelling for months but I've finally got around to starting my Sherman! I painted the crew last night (AB 20mm) and made a start on the hull.

Return to a stalled build - WW1 trench attack

Hi Peter. Looking good! I had the same problem making the barbed wire for this chap. My first attempt was way over scale so I used 0.15mm copper wire, incredibly fiddly and I had to put a dab of CA on each barb to stop them moving. The screw picket was made from steel wire left over from a...

    Airfix Cromwell 1/76

And put together in a wee vignette. Hamburg May '45 - Cromwell and Dingo of 8th Hussars with a couple of Riflemen from 1st Bn The Rifle Brigade.

    Airfix Cromwell 1/76

Thanks Andrew! The base coat was Mike's SCC15 mix for Humbrol enamels (150,159 and 33 at 5:5:2), then I gave it a wash of very dark brown followed by a fairly heavy dry-brushing with the Vallejo mix. The Humbrol mix is really quite dark so this gave it a faded look and brought out the detail...
