A bad day at the office for Luftwaffe Major 'Huff' Hfuhruhurr - Tobruk, N. Africa. June 24th 1941

Update.... I've knocked about and added the nose bit. Then brushed on a second coat of paint to the airframe. I didn't really need this extra coat as the whole thing will be sun bleached. Also I've very roughly painted in where the cockpit framing goes. For an added touch I've cut out a...

A bad day at the office for Luftwaffe Major 'Huff' Hfuhruhurr - Tobruk, N. Africa. June 24th 1941

I've started to ad a bit of colour to the aircraft and added the canopy. To this I've roughly painted on just where the frame work for it will go. I've also hacked at the port engine nacelle and lower gun position pod.....etc! Cheers. Ron

    Edit function?

I noticed this morning that the edit function is no longer available. Up until recently members were allowed a couple of days grace to alter things. Is it my computer or has the function been permanently removed? Ron

A bad day at the office for Luftwaffe Major 'Huff' Hfuhruhurr - Tobruk, N. Africa. June 24th 1941

Back to the JU-88. Here's the awful excuse for a cockpit canopy. Not a single bit of frame detail to be seen. It comes in three pieces too! Just what to do? Luckily, rather like the P-40's canopy it will be well weathered, so neatness to making a frame of sorts is not an issue. I have a...

A bad day at the office for Luftwaffe Major 'Huff' Hfuhruhurr - Tobruk, N. Africa. June 24th 1941

Chris, I've just had a look at some desert aircraft pictures of a wrecked P-40. A very sad end to the pilot too. They will make a great reference for my JU-88 effort. Thanks for the pointer......... Here's some of a crashed P-40 I've sieved out from t'internet, which might be of interest to...

A bad day at the office for Luftwaffe Major 'Huff' Hfuhruhurr - Tobruk, N. Africa. June 24th 1941

Update. Good old 'Huffanstuff' managed to fly his crippled JU-88 to Axis held territory, but had to force land miles from his base. All the crew survived the 'Bumpy Landing'. A team of ground crew went out to the wrecked aircraft and salvaged what was of any use. What was left of the JU-88...

A bad day at the office for Luftwaffe Major 'Huff' Hfuhruhurr - Tobruk, N. Africa. June 24th 1941

Thanks boys. Give Jim a coconut! I did indeed take the name from Steve Martin's character in the film Jim mentions. Obviously a fictitious pilot. There again, most of my stuff is built with not much thought given to accuracy, more fantasy. I prefer to just get on with gluing plastic together...

A bad day at the office for Luftwaffe Major 'Huff' Hfuhruhurr - Tobruk, N. Africa. June 24th 1941

A bad day at the office for Luftwaffe Major 'Huff' Hfuhruhurr - Tobruk, N. Africa. June 24th 1941 The German pilot with the world's most unpronounceable surname was not having a good day. Having strafed and bombed the beleaguered British garrison at Tobruk in June 1941, his Ju 88 had been hit...

    Ron's watercolour dabblings

Thanks boys. :thumb2: Richard. pass on my thanks to your lady for such a nice observation. Pass on this tip which might help her. Rather like this modelling lark, tell her not to overload herself with all the must have painting bits and pieces. Keep it simple and just enjoy putting paint to...

Dapol OO/HO Church. Refurbished and ready for the Church Congregation!

A great kit with very nice stone detail. All let down by a very poor roof which lacks 'Umph' and the ridge and eaves stonework are all way out of scale and too big. An easy fix, but one that could have been avoided by Dapol. The Lichgate is scratch built as is the rest of the base. The trees are...

Alterations and refurbishment to the Church in sleepy old Dapol.

More good news chaps! I've just heard from Idu. He has informed me the Church is finished. He and the boys have worked really hard. To quote Idu. "Mr. Ron, we deesyded to woork troo de reeyan, so we could get de mudder feenishd ready foor toomorow's servees. De veekar am sending me a pitcha ob...

    Ron's watercolour dabblings

Due to personal circumstances I'm confined to Barracks for a while, so of the late, and to keep me occupied when I'm not in the model making mood, I've got the water colour brushes out..... Chaps, how about these 'proper' cats on yer' cushions?! Cheers. Ron

Alterations and refurbishment to the Church in sleepy old Dapol.

Yesterday, I came across this bit of forgotten unfinished business stashed in a box in my loft, so I'd better finish it before it disappears for another few more years. The thread is a good read too. Forget the build itself, the interaction between my fellow members is a hoot! The perimeter...

Posting unsolicited photos on a thread.

Hi all. This has always been frowned on here on S.M., but I've noticed recently that more and more members are posting their own photographs of the same build on the O.P.'s thread......and I would like any comments/ observations on this practice. Personally, I think it detracts from the...

    Salmon and Gluckstein's English Channel Dash. 11th / 13th Feb. 1942.

Thanks chaps. :thumb2: Gneisenau done. More or less the same as Scharnhorst but slightly different mast layout and she has some colour on her main and secondary turret roofs. Cheers. Ron

    Salmon and Gluckstein's English Channel Dash. 11th / 13th Feb. 1942.

Apart from a bit of tweaking, Scharnhorst done. I was going to give her some basic rigging, but at a scale distance the stuff won't be seen. Cheers. Ron

    Salmon and Gluckstein's English Channel Dash. 11th / 13th Feb. 1942.

Update..... The deck planking is way too wide, summat like six feet wide! So, using my scalpel, I gently scrape additional boards parallel to the moulded ones. They can't really be seen at a scale distance but it gives the deck a bit more umph when painted. I can't stand those vicious...

    Salmon and Gluckstein's English Channel Dash. 11th / 13th Feb. 1942.

Why Salmon and Gluckstein? The British were unable to get their tongues around Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, the correct name for these sister German Battleships, so the press nicknamed them after a famous London Tobacconist. The public soon took up the names. On the 11 Feb. 1942, these two ships...

Sqn. Ldr. Basil Gerald 'Stapme' Stapleton's Typhoon ride!.....Normandy, 1944

Decals on and all finished. Big prop made from a bit of clear plastic. I thought it looked way too big, but it is the correct size. Nice kit, brush painted then chucked..... "Crazy Limey! Frightening ma' boys like that!" Flying over a liberated village...A good wheeze, what...
