What flew over your house (yesterday)

Well not yesterday, but right now. I’m just having a cup of tea before cleaning the pond and this flew over.

    Colin M’s Eduard’s 1:48 Tempest Mk V

It seems a bit of rain was quite welcome today. Water buts full and cockpit finished. And the other angle. All photo etch provided by mr Eduard. Interesting, it looks like I have been lucky.

    Colin M’s Eduard’s 1:48 Tempest Mk V

That’s got me thinking. I’ve been building Eduard’s for years, but only Profipacks, I wonder if the Profipacks are all newer moulds ? It makes sense in a way. We’re off, I did wonder where the tiny bits of plastic came from I found floating around. Now I know ! A quick repair needed, I...

    Colin M’s Eduard’s 1:48 Tempest Mk V

22nd May, I said I would enter the GB with this. Ok, a little bit late to the party, but here we go. The box. The contents The Profipack comes with everything except paint, glue and time. So, a wet Sunday, let’s get going.

Bristol Bulldog MkII - Airfix 1:48

Thank you Mr Airfix. When this release was announced, it was a 'want' from me. Straight to the bench when arriving, getting right in the way of my D day build. Troubles ? the trailing edge of the wings need a bit of work to make them a better fit, as did the fuselage seam, on my build anyway...

    Airfix 1:48 Bristol Bulldog Mk.II

It’s now a bi-plane. Fitting the upper wing presented no real drama, probably helped by the lower interplane struts have a very positive location point. Now of course, the real fun starts. Rigging.

    Airfix 1:48 Bristol Bulldog Mk.II

Totally agree, they were cartograph, but the decal sheet doesn’t have a name on it now. I’m happy to report it’s behaving like a new tool kit now. Don’t you love it when a household object makes things just that bit easier. Washers used for masking the wheels.

    Airfix 1:48 Bristol Bulldog Mk.II

A slight step forward in my build. Decals are done. Generally very well behaved. They are quite 'stretchy' which was useful covering some of the bigger detail. And the engine, all the components slightly weathered.

What flew over your house (yesterday)

Well not yesterday, but right now. This Avro Anson, looking very nice in its D day markings.

    Airfix 1:48 Bristol Bulldog Mk.II

Continuing with the build, a small quality issue pops up. Look at the stress points on this manifold. Yes, it’s a two piece manifold, all those pipes should be at the same height. I did warm it up first before bending back into shape, but still broke one. Anyway, all primed up and sanded...

    Airfix 1:48 Bristol Bulldog Mk.II

I’ve done a bit. The cockpit is all done. It’s interesting how the wicker seats of WW1 have gone and we now have a quite modern height adjustable seat, with a harness, not just a lap belt. Progress indeed. The fuselage fully encased the ‘pit so not much at all can be seen. You can see a...

    Airfix 1:48 Bristol Bulldog Mk.II

Airfix announced the release of this kit a while back. The moment I saw it, the kit was a ‘want’ immediately. That’s a rare thing for me. What caught my eye ? Well it’s a bi-plane, I like bi-planes, but look at the engine, so prominent, I do like a nice engine. There are two great GB’s going...

Welcome to Geoff’s D-Day 80th Anniversary tribute chat thread.

What are people's opinion of this as an entry to the GB ?. The Mkv Tempest was involved before D day, but then was held back until June 8th, then it joined in.

the kit you aspire to most!

It was this; I say this because some years ago, I bought it and built it. This was the kit I remember looking up at in a model shop near where I lived. I was small, it was huge, and the price was way, way out of reach. Which i suppose means, I need to find another.

    What's going on here ?

Is this an example of AI at it's worst. It poped up on a selling site (I'm not buying the picture - it's awful) The two 'reflected roundels are bad enough, but the landing gear - is really twisting my melon.

    Revell 1:32 Spitfire mk2a

The Revell 1:32 Spitfire Mk2a, available new for less than £30.00 Well worth it. I built it OOB over the last few months. I actually suspended building this for the Bi-plane build, so can't really say how long it took me, but some of you professional builders could knock this out in a couple of...

What car do you first remember your father owning?

A Viva HA, This isn't it, but ours did have the red interior. This car died and sat at the side of our house for a while, probably waiting for the scrap man. I wonder how many imaginary drives I went for in this car ? This was actually his first car having been a motor bike person before, but...

    Colin M's 1/48 Eduard Fokker D VII (Build a Bi-plane GB)

It's finished. There was no drama in this build, the huge decals were fun, and a little out of register, but only on the lower side of the upper wing. Unfortunately for me, this aircraft was so strong, it didn't need rigging. And that's it, done. Thanks to Ian for creating this GB.

    Colin M's 1:48 Eduard Fokker D.VII

The Fokker has a full complement of wings. Location wasn’t brilliant so I fixed the interplane struts first, with old school glue. Next day, attached the cabane struts, again, old school glue helped out here.

    Colin M's 1:48 Eduard Fokker D.VII

It’s got wheels. Locating pins were very sloppy, so it was another job for ‘old school glue’ I always think, when a model is sat on its own wheels, we’ve reached a bit of a milestone in the build. The engine slots in nicely. Now to fit the guns before the upper wing.
