Primer layer
I hope this is not too much of a stupid question... The last two models I've done (first in 40 years) I've not used primer. What is the advantage of using primer first. Getting the Trumpeter 1/350 HMS Kent painting it in the dazzle camo.- andy55

Well at long last its finished. Did some more work on the down stream water, which I think works. The figures are refugees from the Luftwaffe. Actually the guy coming out of the building, it was his stag night and in their ultimate wisdom decided to nick a schnellboot.- andy55

Quick update and a question. Been busy with other things so just doing bits here and there. Pic of the down stream lock gates, but not sure about the water. Trying to get the boiling water as the lock drains but not convinced I've succeeded. Views please. Andy- andy55

Yes on the ww2 photos I've been using for ref the binnacle is in front of the inflatable on the S100, however on the S38 it's behind. I think as far as the chain is concerned, as war went on the chain was replaced with rope to conserve steel. Again to be correct I should have built a capstan for...- andy55

Well apart from the weathering it's now complete... So please be gentle with me. lol. I left the torpedoes off as I have a diorama in mind. Now there is a big issue with this model and unfortunately I didn't find it till I'd finished. The instructions have you put 2, two binicles on. One...- andy55

Got the foredeck and the wheelhouse finished now. So moving on to the rear deck. When that's finished I'll have a go at the weathering, that will make or break it.- andy55

Army Paint
Has anyone used the Army Paint Anti Shine Matt Varnish. I want to spray the boat I'm doing, but I don't want to put varnish through my air brush. Comments please. Its to give a protective coat to the hull whilst handling it.- andy55

Update Well, starting to look like a boat. Have been doing a lot of sub assemblies, wood decking and wheel house. This was just a dry fit before gluing the deck in. I've decided that PE is addictive, you start using it... and it's like hummm can I get tweezers on that. Mental. lol- andy55

Quick update. Have spent the last few days bending PE. I know what I said, but thought would give it a try. There's a limit to how long I can spend peering through a magnifying head set. Did some airbrushing this AM just to lighten the dark grey of the plastic however on the foredeck there's...- andy55

Well finished the guns, taken me nearly a week, though have also been having a go with the PE. Got to be honest and say it's not going very quickly. Had a nasty day as decided to make up the torpedo tubes, clipped off two top haves and a bottom, went to clip off second bottom, GONE... emptied...- andy55

Update. Got the hull joined, will have some slight filling and sanding. Think it's me rather than the moulding. There's two bars going across as per pic, so as well as taping the keel you've to put the deck in as spacer and tape the top. Decided after a lot of cursing (Dave) to have a go at the...- andy55

Well not quite sure what I've taken on here. It's Forearts latest, S38, but there's an awful lot of it. Seemed like a good idea after doing Revells S100. To give you an idea, the white sheet in the middle of the pile of sprues is the wire for the hand rails, you have to clean out the stantions...- andy55
