    Garry's 1/24 Italeri Renault R5 Alpine Rally

The little Renault is starting to look the part now. I have applied the decals, and will wait a suitable amount of time for them to dry before final gloss coat. I must add that the quality of the decals was very good, and went on with no problems, using the usual Micro set and sol process. As I...

    Garry's 1/24 Italeri Renault R5 Alpine Rally

I have painted various bits before starting assembly. Then some touch ups will be required, however I am not going for a showroom finish, I am going to attempt a "just in from the race" type of look. So there will be a fair amount of mud and snow slung around, I will attempt to do it justice...

    Garry's 1/24 Italeri Renault R5 Alpine Rally

I have been cutting out the wheel arches for the flares. Here it is prior to the last arch being cut, to show the amount of material that had to be removed. However, now that that is done, it is time to prep for painting. I might add that this kit leaves much to be desired, regarding fit, flash...

    Garry's 1/24 Italeri Renault R5 Alpine Rally

After a lot of messing around I eventually got the engine compartment and the front suspension done. Some the fit was bit questionable, but with careful use of a crowbar....... ;) Even though it will never be seen, I couldn't resist grunging it all up.

    Garry's 1/24 Italeri Renault R5 Alpine Rally

I have primed the parts on the spurs, which is not something I normally do, but thought why not for a change, just to see the difference in the process. Light grey for the body parts and black for the rest. I'm back to the airbrush now. Of course all lit with my new Lumi lamp :smiling2:

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

I have wanted a Lumi Task Lamp for a long time, but as they are rather pricey I restrained myself. Well yesterday Mrs G and I were in the art shop, and she calls me over, and says look at this, showing me a Lumi Lamp, just what I had wanted, and she says, now wait for it, why don't you get one...

    Garry's 1/24 Italeri Renault R5 Alpine Rally

Thanks for setting up this GB Bob. This is my entry. For the 1977 Rally season Renault developed a racing version of the R5 and achieved some success with the car. I am planning to build the car the frenchmen Jean Ragnotti and Jean-Marc Andrié raced in the Monte Carlo Rally of 1978, in which it...

Tworrs 1/72 Airfix Lancaster B.III (Special) The Dambusters

I think we all understand, and indeed appreciate, that it is only with the help and advice from the fine folk on this forum that we improve. @AlanG kindly pointed out the patterning of the exhaust stains on the outer engines of the Lancaster, so a little judicious rubbing was applied.. Here is...

Tworrs 1/72 Airfix Lancaster B.III (Special) The Dambusters

A reasonably pleasant build, with only a couple of fit issue, which were quite easily solved. I made an attempt at brush painting, which I have to say was not as good as I would have liked, so to the future it's back to the airbrush Overall the end result is acceptable to me and, I suppose...

    Tworrs 1/72 Lancaster B.III

I have painted and attached the propeller spinners, added a touch of weathering, and here she is.

    Tworrs 1/72 Lancaster B.III

After a busy few days, I have attached the decals, matt varnished and applied weathering, which to my eye is about right for the aircraft. Being that this is only my second aeroplane build, the result is acceptable to me So I will be calling this one done. Thanks for following my build, and for...

    Tworrs 1/72 Lancaster B.III

Sprayed gloss varnish on so that I can attach the decals. It's amazing what the camera picks up that my sad old eyes don't, so it looks like some touch ups are called for. Though it also depends on how "used" I make it, weathering covers a multitude of sins, doesn't it, as Steve noted above...

    Tworrs 1/72 Lancaster B.III

I have started splashing some colour on now, and she is looking a little less bare ;) This is my first attempt at brush painting a model, and to be honest I think I prefer the airbrush. While the masking is a bit of a faff the finish is better, oh well at least I tried it out, and now know...

    Tworrs 1/72 Lancaster B.III

Ok, so I've made some progress on the Lanc, it has been relatively easy with not too many gaps, which will be filled before painting. Some slight fit issues, but those are part of the fun of modelling. Front gunner and bomb aimers positions are in place Tail gunners office has been built and...

    Tworrs 1/72 Lancaster B.III

Brilliant sunny day today, even though it was -2C this morning. Todays progress. The undercarriage is in, and what a mission that was, talk about fiddly, however I persevered and here is the result with which I am quite pleased. Then installed the horizontal and vertical stabilisers to the...

    Hail

We have just had a hail storm, it only lasted 10 minutes though. Here is what fell out of the heavens, hand in the picture for size reference, about 20mm.

    Tworrs 1/72 Lancaster B.III

I have assembled the 4 engine nacelles and attached them to the wings, all were a good fit. I've also made a start on filling the fuselage joints.

    Tworrs 1/72 Lancaster B.III

First the sprue shot. Progress thus far, the office is complete and installed. Here I am gluing the sticky outy bits together. I am a bit disappointed at some of the fit, even the dry fit was not great, but I will overcome that. I'll try to remember to take pics as I go :smiling2:

    Tworrs 1/72 Lancaster B.III

I made a start on this model and omitted to take pics at the beginning, so to remedy that here we go. More to follow.
