1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

I've been plodding on over the festive season and here are the fruits of my labour. Firstly the motors and ESC's Then the rudders and servo The main battery compartment, and also the stabilisers and servo. Then the power distribution area.

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

As I am still waiting for bits to arrive, I have busied myself with some decoration ;)

This is where I am presently.

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

While waiting for "stuff" to arrive, I have epoxied the deck down to the hull, filled all the screw holes, sanded, and given both a couple of extra coats of primer. I have also picked up some paint for the hull, but unfortunately my local (20 miles away) model shop only had 17ml bottles, so once...

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

Further progress on the main mast section, added some lights and the motor for the radar. Now that some of the fittings have arrived from Fleetscale, I was able to stick on a WT door and the Type 996 radar.

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

I have made some progress on the rear mast on the hanger section. Still some tidying up to do though.

Added the coamings around the stern openings.

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

After much deliberating of how to do it, I eventually managed to form the stern/transom flap, which has now been attached. The two new motors have been mounted, and once the splitter cable arrives I will be able to couple up the ESC's and get the power on.

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

A little more progress on the superstructure, while I wait for bits to arrive.

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

The forward gun turret is mounted loosely on the foredeck now, it rotates and the barrel raises and lowers. No it will not be motorised ;)

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

I have built the two funnels, and here they are dry fitted to the superstructure. The internal tube was the exact size of 25mm OD HDPE water pipe, which just happens to be black on the inside.

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

Well, I've ordered 2 new brushed 550 motors and 2 x 60 amp ESC's, both allegedly waterproof, now the long wait for delivery.

Thanks Chris I hope so too, however this arrived to cheer me up. Not even switched on yet.

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

This was a rather fiddly job, the front gun turret, 24 pieces so far and not finished yet. Not great, but it will get better with filling and sanding, and it was a lot quicker than waiting months for one to get here from the UK.

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

I know about the ESC mate, I mentioned to you previously that I have a 30amp unit in stock. No, I won't be adding an elephants ass to the stern of HMS Iron Duke F234, as according to my reference pics she doesn't have one.

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

Chris, it is actually designed for a quadcopter, but a TX is a TX in my mind, it will do what I tell it to do lol, as I mentioned before it will do 20 models in memory. I have made a start on the electronics now, so it is becoming quite interesting. A couple of green LED's in the bridge 2 White...

I found a media pic of the lake from the racing this weekend.

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

I've been busy with the mast sections, and some fiddly bits I added the top section to the main mast, and made 8 little pyramids that fit onto the sides of said section. Then I started on the smaller hanger deck mast, and have managed to get the main body of that done, now I need to make 4...

1/72 HMS Iron Duke - Type 23 Frigate

The basic structure of the missile silos is pretty much done now. Then a pic of The Duke, with all the superstructure loosely fitted. Now I need to get into filling and sanding of all of it, before I can start on the next phase. I ordered some bits from Fleetscale a month ago, but with Peter...
