    Tamiya - Daimler Dingo MkII - 1/35 (1972)

So I think this is getting there now. I varnished with "lucky" matte, then applied a buff filter to some top panel areas. I also tried using some pastels for weathering with white spirit carrier. This appeared too dark to me, so I tried some fine semolina, which has an almost white sand colour...

How long does it take you to build a model?

So, out of interest, just asking how quickly, or slowly, you all build your kits.? This is the average time to build, paint, weather, base etc. whatever you consider "complete", and on average. Feel free to add detail about different types of kit, scale, various stages etc. I may add some polls...

    Tamiya - Daimler Dingo MkII - 1/35 (1972)

Dialled back the chipping a bit, as it seemed a bit much, and added some "rust" using Winton Burnt Sienna. I have to say the shade is spot on, and I like the effect. I think this part of the weathering is done, so time to lock it in with a varnish coat. Moving on tomorrow to some buff filters to...

    Tamiya - Daimler Dingo MkII - 1/35 (1972)

Since I couldn't do much more oil weathering I started "chipping" with acrylics. The effect seems a bit over the top at the moment. I hope it will get dialled back a lot once I do a final buff filter, and apply some "sand" pigment powder. Anyway it's a first attempt, so i'll cut myself some...

    Tamiya - Daimler Dingo MkII - 1/35 (1972)

Well I'd been dreading doing the decals because they're a bit of a bugbear of mine. These went on a treat though, and will be ;left to dry overnight before sealing with more gloss coat. I can then get on with some proper weathering. The kit's had a couple of pin washes, but I think it needs a...

    Latest Acquisitions (2021)

Some reference material and a subscription to MAFVA this week, along with an optivisor. I did buy another Panzer too, but it's the same kit as my last post, (Tamiya Pzkfw IV Ausf D) so didn't photograph:

    Tamiya - Daimler Dingo MkII - 1/35 (1972)

What's the expression? All the gear, and no idea! Yup. Well, here goes: Started with a pin wash of Van Dyke brown (gotta redo the insides again now), which I like. May need to do another, since the effect was lost a lot once dry: Then went on to some colour modulation. I've gone for buff...

    Latest Acquisitions (2021)

Not sure if this is a kits only, or any model related bits thread, but anyway grabbed some proper CA and debonder, acrylic gloss varnish, nickel silver rods and some wet and dry sheets today (1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000). Most of it from my local model railway shop. The sheets were a pound each...

    Tamiya - Daimler Dingo MkII - 1/35 (1972)

Well, it felt really wrong to gloss varnish an AFV, but trusting in the process, advice, Youtube etc. that's what I've done. I used the Mig 2053 "Lucky" gloss varnish. Nice and thin so won't obscure surface details. Went on in a matter of minutes with a big brush. Now I have to wait 24 hours for...

    Latest Acquisitions (2021)

Who was it said I'd be buying more kits already!? I know I've quite a stash, but it's a Panzer! And some of the legendary green stuff :) I've also won some Panzer Colours books on eBay - pictures to follow when they arrive. Now I just have to pick a scheme. North Africa perhaps?

    Tamiya - Daimler Dingo MkII - 1/35 (1972)

Back from Scotland, so a bit more progress on the build. Most of the fiddly bits are fitted now, apart from the rear view mirror. That's just begging to be knocked off, so will be left until last, along with aerials (if I can find something thin enough for them). I've done a couple of coats of...

Old Frog model kits. Collectable? Valuable?

Hi all. I've been going through my stash recently and found a few old Frog kits. I seem to remember seeing some of these are collectable and/or valuable? Can anyone shed any light, or offer any advice please? Thanks in advance :)

    Hello

Last but not least, I've heard that some of the old Frog models are collectable, and could be valuable? Anyone got any idea about this lot?:

    Hello

The last box (there were just four. The bottom one is an old Arcam amp box, empty), holds some planes and stuff. I haven't catalogued those. They hold little interest for me, other than the 1/32 Messerschmidt I'll build one day...

    Tamiya - Daimler Dingo MkII - 1/35 (1972)

A little more done tonight. Just a few of the little fiddly bits stuck on. Jerry cans, front box, exhaust etc. Not all of them, since I want to get most of the paint on before small bits that can easily be broken or lost. I assembled one of the figures too, and drilled a hole for the "base". Why...

Abbreviations and acronyms (what do those letters mean?)

Somewhere to list all the abbreviations and acronyms on the site. A recent post saw a fellow modeller and myself wondering, so list away! May be useful to new members. I'll start with: PE = photo etch (ed) - metal parts usually bought in addition to a kit which enhance or improve the model SBS...
