    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

Ok thanks for the observations, you were all right and it’s supposed to be the other way round. Were I was confused, there should be a protrusion that has snapped off somewhere, so I’ll need to scratch something there which shouldn’t be too difficult, although I was going to paint and weather...

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

Thank you all. Very kind words. Not making hugely noticeable progress, just small bits and pieces. However can't get my head around this on the torpedo feed. Assume it to be a mistake: That supporting bar is supposed to fit into that hole. It can't and it won't. No where near. Assuming I...

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

Not massively visible progress, but soldered all the wiring up and tidied the cables to the internals. There is a video...but you'll have to make do with stills.

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

Thanks Monica. Cheers Ian. Glued in the periscopes, antenna and rangefinder It's been a bit if a head-scratcher in what order to paint/glue and how separate to keep things. Made the decision however to fix the conning tower down to the hull. Trying also to decide how to paint. I'm not...

    Jack's Airfix 1/72 Sea King

It’s quite a simple little thing, and it only took me a couple of hours to get the internals more or less done. I’ll paint before I go any further. It’s screaming for some extra bits and pieces, but I’m determined this will be an OOB build. Been a while since I have worked on this scale!

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

Slow progress, back to the grind after Christmas. Now balancing three jobs to try and make my way...and I'm still doing stupid things like spending money on modelling. Oh well. Been working my way through the sub -assemblies (pun intended). Some really horrible parts to remove seam lines from...

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

That was a sweaty 30 mins. One mis-drilled hole however. Tidying up will wait until tomorrow

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

Hole cut out of the side, but this is only the 'inner skin'. Wired up the lighting as well. Red and white at the flick of a switch. Extremely pleased with the result Need to pluck up the courage to cut a hole in the 'outer skin'. That really is the point of no return! And one of the border...

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

Thanks Monica. Border do a set of figures, and I have also ordered some more from a company called Scale 75. They are on their way from France I think. I have four of these fellows on order:

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

Bit of progress on some actual plastic. For the amount this kit costs, it’s a bit dissapointing. All of the smaller parts have hard to remove seam lines, injection marks or both, usually in hard to reach places or on details. But there we go. Just dry fitted for the mo while I paint the sub...

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

Added some make up, and the 6 kit parts and pretty happy. I added a blob of micro clear or whatever it's called to the respective dials and unfortunately two have dried opaque but not a lot to do about it. I realised too late that the five kit dials are all at 12 o-clock which bugs me a bit, but...

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

Well nearly managed to ruin it…I really dislike Mig paints, never been able to get results. But, I had the colour, so thought I would give them another go. Spent ages playing with paint, thinner and pressure, putting paint to plastic when thinking I had the right combination when splat…a huge...

    L.E.D.s

Wonder if anyone, @boatman maybe, could offer me some LED advice. I'm making a U-Boat conning tower, and think it would lend itself well to some lighting, maybe a red and white light option. I've not done electronics since school and cannot remember that far back. I bought some off ebay but a)...

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

Thanks all for the help with the reference material, been a massive help. I think I have finished tinkering with the internals. Have just given it a primer coat to see what it will look like all in one shade. If happy, it will get an off white coat, and then I can add in the kit parts and wire...

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

I bought this, mistakenly assuming there may be some technical diagrams or some such, but it's beyond useless for the Conning Tower internals. A grand total of three limited photos. So making this up as I go (shock)! It's surprisingly difficult (for me) to conjure gizmos. Everything other than...

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

Not all that uniform, but not sure that will be noticed when in place. May need a couple more when I see what will and won't be seen.

    Jack's Border 1/35 U-Boat Conning Tower

Thanks Andy. In my impatience, i decided to ignore all the suggestions above...and try the metalwork/jewellery route. I initially dismissed the idea, but then had a go. Some copper wire, bent round a thick paintbrush, snipped at the join and then soldered and filed down. Used some plastic...
