Karls RAF journey PT.3 Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire Mk.Vb
Part 1 here. Part 2 here. Realised I have so many Spitfires I'm going to have to alternate between them with each build. Another simple kit from Tamiya, they've a Mk.I in their line up which is a superior kit by all accounts but I've 4 of Eduard's Mk.I so I'll probably not get the Tamiya...- KarlW

Not my best, happiest with the office, would spray rather than use decals for stripes in future. First go with flory weathering wash and impressed enough.- KarlW

This is a bit scary, decals finished, gloss coat applied then slathered the model in a Flory Models weathering wash, which you let dry then wipe off with a wet rag........seen the video time to try it out.- KarlW

More decals, the roundels are misbehaving a bit and "dishing", not something I've experienced before. Hopefully get these all down today and another gloss coat before a clay wash Managed to knock ck off all the canopy sections too......- KarlW

Another FAA subject, as well as the box art it also has markings for one stationed in Ballyhalbert, Co. Down, which gives local (Sort of.) interest, though that one remains in the US paint scheme so it could make a nice break on my RAF journey. Now it does hint that the wings can be folded in... -

Sometimes wonder why we bother with stenciling, can just about read these ones. Also hit the parts of the flaps that are exposed when down with some aluminium.- KarlW

Went to start decaling and realised I forgotten the leading edge yellow stripes, so masked up, sprayed dark earth to even things out and then a squirt of yellow. And while the yellow was in the airbrush the prop tips got done too.- KarlW

Well that's night and day. I had issues with Humbrols Clear Coat, which I bought thinking it was the old clear coat which was solvent based and not this new stuff that appears to be pee based. It beaded up, which I fixed by wiping down with a thinners soaked cloth, and then got a chalky finish...- KarlW

Another quick session, these acrylic lacquers do make things a bit quicker, ocean grey sprayed, masked, dark green sprayed and masks removed in under an hour. I used the top notch masks, and yes they saved a bit of time compared to my usual frisk film technique, and have given me a a better...- KarlW

Home again, and home for at least a week so hope to get some progress on this. Spent a morning of procrastination rather than actually doing anything but glazed, primed, and got two colours down, the white at the nose and the Medium Sea Grey undersurfaces. Now making bacon butties.- KarlW

This is it for this week, away again at stupid o'clock tomorrow morning for another 6 day week.....so have to do family stuff today, I might get a chance later to mask and install the glazing, then I'll be ready for paint. Wheel bays are painted.- KarlW
