    Il-2M3 Shturmovik (Tamiya 1:72)

Excellent Tamiya model, which made me a few problems at the start of the build, but luckily, I could remedy the problem. First time using Quinta 3D cockpit decals only to realize, that there is no option of open cockpit. Oh well, at least the canopy has the clearest clear plastic I have ever...

    SBD-3 Dauntless

Second addition to my Battle of Midway 80th anniversary build. After some excellent 1:700 ships (and supposedly 1:72 armor), Flyhawk released their first 1:72 aircraft and they nailed it the first time. There are a few minor things like open dive flaps (upper part should be closed), wrong...

Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat (Arma Hobby 1:72)

Excellent Arma Hobby model. John S. Thatch's aircraft after the first action of Battle of Midway where he shot down three Japanese aircraft. Mostly out of the box model, with just a few scratch items and a riveting job. Full article and gallery...

    Il-2M3 Shturmovik (Tamiya, 1:72)

Added muddy pools and algae, further played with grass greens, chernozem browns, painted the exposed rocks, etc. I think this is it :) Soon to be posted in the gallery.

    Il-2M3 Shturmovik (Tamiya, 1:72)

I've been painting the base a bit over the weekend. I will be adding more colour variation in the next few days as well as adding some puddles and stuff. It may not be perfect, but it is a great way to practice new techniques for future projects.

    Il-2M3 Shturmovik (Tamiya, 1:72)

With such a nice weathering on the Il-2, I've decided to try and make a little base for it. Heavily inspired by Uncle Nightshift's work on Youtube I prepared an XPS base and used several different elements on it, from weathering pastes, dirt and rocks from the garden, to static grass and tufts...

    Il-2M3 Shturmovik (Tamiya, 1:72)

Finished with weathering the upper sides. Combination of enamel and oil washes and watercolour pencils (starting to experiment with these). Just a few more details and she'll be finished.

    Il-2M3 Shturmovik (Tamiya, 1:72)

All good things come to an end and so did my holiday. But hey, with batteries recharged, it's time for some work on the Il-2. Working a little bit over the weekend, I can say I am mostly finished with the the undersides.

    Il-2M3 Shturmovik (Tamiya, 1:72)

Last update before some vacation in Greece. Mr.Paint having a smooth satin coverage is a big plus as you don't need to gloss before decals. Luckily there isn't much of them either on these ww2 aircraft so it was a relatively quick job applying them and sealing them with Semi-matt in preparation...

By painting the AMT-12 Dark Grey, the basic camo painting is complete. I really like how the paint job turned out!

SMER 1/48 Sukhoi su 22m4 in polish service

Once upon a time, when they were still performing a dynamic duo display at airshows (my photo, Kescskemet, Hungary, 2013).

AMT-4 Green added - starting to look like a real deal now!

As I always paint from lightest to darkest colour, the AMT-1 Light Brown was the obvious choice. Again mottling over the black base with added different brown and light sandy tones to achieve the faded used paint effect.

    Il-2M3 Shturmovik (Tamiya, 1:72)

The bottom was painted with AMT-7 Light Blue (Mr.Paint) and shaded with lighter tones, making a combination of blackbasing and postshading so to speak.

    Il-2M3 Shturmovik (Tamiya, 1:72)

Now that I am feeling a little better, I've made some major progress. Unfortunately the join between fuselage and wings wasn't the best so some surgery was required there. Machine gun barrels were replaced with insulin injection needles while the 23mm gun barrels and pitot tube were made of...

And last but not least, the riveted front part of the fuselage. Rear part and tail were wooden so no riveting there.

    Il-2M3 Shturmovik (Tamiya, 1:72)

Slowly recovering from my health issues, so not much progress, but I guess I can call the bottom of the wings done.

    Il-2M3 Shturmovik (Tamiya, 1:72)

Before riveting the bottom of the wings, I had to install the landing gear bays and since it's gonna be easier to do now, I added some weathering.

    Il-2M3 Shturmovik (Tamiya, 1:72)

Since they are such a big canvas, I've decided to rivet the wings. After almost two hours, this is the result so far... half way there with wings.
