    Humbrol paints

Great picture. I now understand why I got a pot of H85 Satin Coal Black with a difference - 'Sandra' must have been bored or distracted and put an H65 Matt Aircraft Blue lid on one tin. She realised her mistake and painted the lid black! It was indeed H85 Satin Black in the left hand tin. Dave

Airfix 1/37 Quick Build Transport for London New Routemaster (J6050)

My build of the Airfix 1/37 Quick Build Transport for London New Routemaster (J6050) A very enjoyable diversion from traditional modelling. I did think about painting the lights and mirrors but in the end I decided to leave it as it is. Dave

Airfix 1/72 RNLI Shannon Class Lifeboat (A55015)

My build of the Airfix 1/72 RNLI Shannon Lifeboat (A55015) I made quite a few changes to the basic kit and added RNLI figures from Scale3D. Flags were spare decals from a Severn Lifeboat kit. I used Humbrol and Xtracolor enamels and not the Starter Set acrylics. Dave

    Airfix 1/72 McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom (493)

My build of the Airfix 1/72 McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom (493). I actually built this in 2020 but for some unknown reason I never posted pictures in the gallery. It was supposed to be completely OOB, with no aftermarket stuff, no weathering, no scribing and a hairy stick finish. However, I had...

    A Pair Of Trainers

After the past few months of hell, dealing with my Rheumatoid Arthritis, I have managed to get back to the modelling bench now that the weather has been warmer. It has taken a while to get these two builds completed and problems with my hands meant that I kept dropping the models! Both kits have...

Is this the carpet monster - or am I going batty?

After an absence from my modelling bench for a couple of months due to problems with my hands, I am pleased to report that I have been able to do some modelling over the past week or so. Yesterday afternoon I was in my modelling den "de-riveting" an Airfix B17G and heard a noise down by my...

Need help with a natural light lamp adjustment

I have had three of these lamps in my den for years, one set up like the picture above which moves easily in both directions (about 340 degrees between stops), the second is slightly stiffer whilst the third one had been impossible to turn without brute force. I solved the problem with the third...

    DaveCov's Novo (ex-Frog) 1/72 Bleriot XI (F173)

My build of the Novo (ex-Frog) 1/72 Bleriot XI (F173) The rigging inside the fuselage was difficult because the fuselage sides and floor were moulded in one piece. If they had been separate then life would have been so much easier. Even so, it was a very satisfying build. Dave

    DaveCov's Hauler 1/72 Morris Mk.II (HLP72031)

My build of the Hauler 1/72 Morris Mk.II (HLP72031) A nice little kit but it was fiddly, seeing as it is just over two inches long. I added stowage for some flimsies, added a gunner, added a brass rod aerial, and added an exhaust. Dave

    DaveCov's Heller 1/72 AMX 30/105 (71221)

My build of the Heller 1/72 AMX 30/105 (71221) As this was a quick OOB build, I didn't bother to scratch-build turret stowage baskets. The kit tracks were awful and devoid of detail. I replaced them with cut-down Sherman tracks. Dave

    DaveCov's Airfix 1/72 Sopwith Pup (01062-1)

As I have been enjoying building the rather old Airfix 1/72 Airco DH4 1918 (01079) (build thread here), I decided to build a companion for it, namely the Airfix 1/72 Sopwith Pup (01062-1). This kit was first released in the Seventies in a blister pack and includes a stand: Painting and decal...

    DaveCov's Airfix 1/72 Airco DH4 1918 (01079)

Thanks to Ian (@papa 695) for setting up this GB. I will be building the Airfix 1/72 Airco DH4 1918 (01079). During the late Sixties when I was aged 10 or 11, I came across the Airfix DH4 for the first time. It was a memorable build for me due to the fact that when I started to build it, there...

    DaveCov's Airfix 1/43 Lamborghini Huracan Evo (A55007)

My build of the Airfix 1/43 Lamborghini Huracan Evo (A55007) This is the first 1/43 scale car I have ever built and too small for my liking. Not my finest ever build either due to my dexterity problems, I lost count of how many times I dropped it. I also had issues with the...

DaveCov's Airfix 1/72 Yakovlev Yak-9D (01034-6) (Karl & Andrew Soviet Wingy Thing GB)

My build of the Airfix 1/72 Yakovlev Yak-9D (01034-6) which was made for Karl & Andrew's Soviet Wingy Thing GB. Apart from a scratch-built cockpit tub and replacement resin wheels, it was a brush-painted OOB build. You can read about it's build, here. Thanks again to Karl and...
