Trumpeter 1/48 Westland Whirlwind (Not the Helicopter!)

Because I don't want to rush my current build,I thought I would make a start on this in between spraying different colours on the Maryland. This is a new kit from Trumpeter. The only other injected plastic kit in this scale I'm aware of was produced by Classic Airframes many years ago.I haven't...

    New Airfix 1/48 Spitfire MkVb

Got this new Airfix release in town today.Looks a very nice kit.The cockpit detail is finer than their other spitfires. The engraved panel lines look just right to me and the Canopy sections are thin and very clear. There are three different canopies and windscreens to choose from and a choice of...

Early WW2 French Aircraft Colours-Help needed

I'm about to start painting my Maryland. But the kit painting guide is not very good.So far I've got Humbrol 144 and 10 for two of the upper surface colours,Blue grey and dark brown. Not sure what to use for the green shade or the underside blue.I use Humbrol,Vallejo and Tamiya paints. The painting...

    Aircraft Maintenance mishap!

These pictures were emailed to me at work by one of the Crew Chiefs. No info as to where they were taken or what happened. Its obviously a FedEx aircraft and looks to me like a jacking accident.Mustn't laugh but oh dear!.Some ones in the brown stuff!.

Dave W's 'What I used to do'

I spent 7 years working for British Aerospace as a Crew Chief on a Saudi Tornado Squadron (no.29) at King Abdul Aziz airbase,Dhahran. These days I work on much bigger aeroplanes that carry people instead of missiles. Before Saudi I was a Phantom Phitter in the RAF.Not sure this qualifies as a...

    Special Hobby 1/48 Martin Maryland.

Thought I would build this next.Im going to paint it as one of the Aircraft flown by the Malta based reconnaissance pilot Adrian Warburton. Not sure which one yet,but probably the one on the box.Warburton was the only pilot ever to become an 'Ace' flying bomber type aircraft. Although a...

    Hasegawa 1/48 JU87G2 Stuka

Finally got this one finished.A nice kit but still needed a bit of filler. After I'd painted the cannon pods off the model I managed to drop one.The end of one of the brass barrels flew off into the darkest recesses of my shed!.So I had to buy another set.I was going to fit an antenna wire.But...

    Dave W's Harrier - Completed

I've finally got this one finished.Made a bit of extra work for myself because as usual I didn't pay enough attention when glueing the parts together. So I needed to do a bit of unnecessary filling.Ive painted it as as a GR9 flown by the wing commander of no.41 squadron,RAF Air Warfare Centre,RAF...

    Hasegawa 1/48 JU87G-2 'Stuka'

This is my next build. Its the G-2 tank busting version of the infamous 'Stuka'.I will be doing it as an aircraft flown by Hitlers most decorated pilot and probably the most successful combat pilot in history,Hans Ulrich Rudel. The kit comes with decals for two of his aircraft.Ive bought an Eduard...

    Dave W's E.E Lightning - Completed.

Anyone who has followed this build will know it's been an 'Emotional Rollercoaster',a 'Journey','What doesn't kill you makes you stronger' and half a hundred other modern crap sayings. All problems have been of my own making of course. The kit itself is superb and didn't give me any problems.I...

    Completed - 1/48 Boulton-Paul Defiant

I finished this one last night.Despite it being a limited run multi media type kit it went together well and didn't give me any real problems.Ive not done any weathering so it looks pristine. But I'm really pleased with it.It's finished as a mk1 on the strength of no.264 squadron in June 1940...

    Dave W's Harrier

As I'm at the painting stage with my other two builds I thought I would make a start on this. Its the same kit as Ian M's but is the only Harrier in my stash.

    1/48 Boulton-Paul Defiant

Next up on my work bench is this kit.I tried building one of these when it was released around 20 years ago.But it was my first attempt at a multi media kit and I never finished it.Classic Airframes ceased production some years ago.But I bought this kit at my local model club last year.Ive got a...

    Alclad Experiment.

I thought this might be of interest to some.I'm about to paint my Lightning with Alclad. The fin and fuselage spine need to be painted white first for ease of masking.I was worried that Alclad black primer would react with the Vallejo White primer I intend using for the white areas. So I sprayed...

    Airfix 1/48 TSR2 completed

As the tittle says,I've finished this one.The real aircraft got quite dirty during flight testing. So I've dirtied it up a bit.The highlighted panel lines probably aren't to everyone's taste. But on this model I like it.I could have made a better job of the canopies by spraying them when attached...

    Thinning Mr Colour paints

Ive got some Gunze/Mr Colour clear gold paint that I need to thin.I didn't order any thinners as I thought I still had some Mr Colour Thinner.Wrong.Somebody told me you can thin it with water. But that doesn't work as the paint is lacquer based.Anyone know if cellulose thinner will do the job?.I...
