    British WWII Armoured Vehicles

Okay so this is such an obvious thing that you'll all be wondering why I'm even bothering to ask. I'll ask anyway. So, I'm currently doing a European WWII dio and I need a piece of UK armour either a tank (medium or heavy) or some sort of APC. Tracked or non-tracked isn't important, I just need...

    Japanese WWII aircraft

So, do we have a resident expert in WWII Japanese aircraft? I'm About to start a 1:48 Zero want to read up on it first. I'm also looking into colour schemes so it's going to be a bit of research first but don't really know where to start with books. Is there a specific publisher that's better...

Scale Model Shop Newsletter <FAO John>

I just got three emails from Scalemodelshop. First one said My newsletter subscription was a success, the second was an unsubscription notice and the third was a success email again. Any idea what's going on?

Drew's (Homechild) Pacific Dogfight...Completed SIG pics

So, this was an up and down project, good kits and bad kits, nevermind, we got over that. Here are the pics. A dogfight over the Pacific Ocean between a Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero and an FAA Corsair (pre-Pacific colouring) ends in tradgedy for the brave pilot of the Zero.

    Spitfire belly colour

I know this topic comes up from time to time and I always read the threads (I even read one that someone posted with what looked like scanned WWII documents) but help... I'm getting ready to paint my UK F4U Corsair tomorrow in the standard WWII UK camo pattern and I'm having trouble convincing...

    Bending Acrylic Rod

Does anyone know how to bend 8mm thick acrylic rod? I'd like to pose my plane at an angle for my "Pacific" SIG but cant think how to bend the rod. I tried putting it in boiling water to soften it but it didn't work (maybe I didn't do it for long enough). Any ideas?

    Homechild's Comanche RAH 66 - Completed

So, instead of mothballing a $7billion programme to develop a new attack helicopter the US government stuck with it and the Comanche was born. After successful trials with the Army, the Navy took the heli too and here it is in one of their unique camo schemes.

Airbrushing question: How do you do fine lines

Hi there, as the title says, how do you do finer lines using a double action, gravity fed airbrush? Is this regulated by the needle? If so, should the needle be further back into the handle of the airbrush or sticking further out the front? Cheers Drew

    Homechild's RAH-66 Comanche "What if..."

While I'm awaiting on a replacement Corsair for my "Pacific" build (and to keep the momentum up) I'm going to enter this into the SIG. Instead of cancelling the RAH-66 Comanche project after spending $7 billion on it, the US military decided to keep going with it and brought it into service. I...

    On cloud 9 just now!

Well, I know I don't really know you guys that well but just wanted to share my good news (well I think it's good news anyway). I passed my driving test today. For years I had the time but not the money for lessons, then, when the kiddies came along I had the money but not the time. All the...

    Drew's (homechild) Pacific Dogfight

Here are the two candidates for my Pacific build, pretty basic kits but I'll be taking my time as I want them to look as good as I can, may even get some aftermarket bits and bobs (because they really are pretty basic!). This will be taking a bit of a back seat for the time being (have to...

Drew's (homechild) Japanese Ground Self Defense Force Light Armoured Vehicle...

...or Drew's JGSDFLAV for short! When I first saw this model I decided that I would have to get one and build it, I'm also planning on getting a second one for a future build (all depends on how this one goes though - as it's a Tamiya I'm guessing it'll be pretty easy going). I've also got...

    Muddying the water...

Now, I know one or two of you will have done this so I’m looking for some tips. How would you go about making muddy water (such as a muddy river or stream)? I have the clear resin ordered but what I need to know is do you mix and pour the clear resin then paint over it put paint/ink/wash in...

    Oh, the pain...

Woke up this morning to a stinging criss-cross pattern of pain on the tip of my left index finger! I really have to find a different way to trim bits off of models. Once the parts have been cut off of the sprues/trees/frames/call them what you will, there is always a little bit left there that...

    Drew's SEAL Team Insertion

Finally I can start on a Vietnam build. My initial plan wasn't going to work out due to the kit I wanted being unavailable everywhere...so, on to what I AM going to do. I'm going to build a diorama showing a US Navy SEAL Team being dropped off by a US Navy PBR31 "Pibber" somewhere along the...

    Specific WWII planes

Is there a website or resource available where you can search for a specific aircraft of WWII? I know that some of you build planes which are matched to photographs found online but I have no idea how to search by their numbers. Can anyone give me some quick pointers? Thanks Drew

Olive drab, khaki, olive green, dark khaki...

I'm going slightly mad here so I hope you don't mind me venting slightly. I've been looking into WWII US army uniform colours and can't get my head round it all! The colours vary depending on which website you look at and the Google images pictures are just as varied. As the colours would...

    Historical photographs for research.

I only came back to this hobby about 12 - 18 months ago and during this time have been on here and have seen some of the great builds you guys are knocking out. I also notice that for WWII aircraft you seem to be able to locate pictures of actual aircraft to get the camo pattern, bomb loads...

Okay, who's the resident WWII US Army expert?

I'm not looking for colour advice but have noticed differences in uniforms. Okay so I have some US troops but don't know what the difference is between the ranks. Some have the fairly standard field uniform and it's obvious these guys are the rank and file troops but there are also some with a...

    M3 Half-track dilema

So, I'm in the middle of building the 1/35 Tamiya M3A2 just now and it's going great, the pieces are just falling together! I really didn't think I'd enjoy this build so much as WWII armour isn't really my thing (or so I thought). Anyway, as the M3A2 didn't seem to be in use during WWII I need...
