Combrig kits of IJN Ironclad Fuso (1900) and IJN Gunboat Heine (1895)f

Speaking of which, ordered these off ‘t’internet’ both arrived within a week!!! Rather than the 6 to 8 weeks detailed on the order confirmation Davits are not correct era etc. but better than the ‘sticks’ provided with the kit. Just got to tweak them a bit.

both Kits painted out in base scheme plus a coat of Satin varnish. Go away to ‘cook’ for a day or so while I work on some of the detail bits.

Combrig kits of IJN Ironclad Fuso (1900) and IJN Gunboat Heine (1895)f

Some more basic paintwork and dry fit for the masts. Tried (four or five times) to solder the masts but made a complete botch of it every time, so reverted to my normal glueing method. Paint on the masts then everything will get a couple of coats of gloss/satin varnish to protect whats done...

Combrig kits of IJN Ironclad Fuso (1900) and IJN Gunboat Heine (1895)f

Got bored with painting so decided to move on to mast work. These kits do not have any included but provide dimensional details for construction from brass rod. Unfortunately they are at a random scale so had to convert/scale down illustrations to get an approximate diameter for each piece of...

Concentrating on Fuso, wooden decks and boat woodwork base charts on and starting to build up white on main hull and superstructure.

Combrig kits of IJN Ironclad Fuso (1900) and IJN Gunboat Heine (1895)f

Not really my scale of choice but they ARE nice. on another note, I have just finished another 1/700 kit, Atlantic Models HMS Kelly, which I found in a sale and has languished in the ‘Work-In-Progress’ wilderness for 6 months or so. Just got to rig it, finish off the sea base and do a bit of...

Combrig kits of IJN Ironclad Fuso (1900) and IJN Gunboat Heine (1895)f

All parts primed with Mr Finishing Surfacer 1500 thinned with Mr Colour Levelling Thinner - my current fave primer. Thought the detail of the mouldings were good when I first opened the boxes but the Matt finish shows how ace (IMHO) they really are.

Combrig kits of IJN Ironclad Fuso (1900) and IJN Gunboat Heine (1895)f

Cut base and finalised layout, hull positions marked out ready for a coat of paint and some texture (will work on this in gaps between build stages. Now to start on the models themselves. Priming first, then look at the build sequence, a different one with every model till I find the best...

Combrig kits of IJN Ironclad Fuso (1900) and IJN Gunboat Heine (1895)f

Done some initial work on both, including scratch built support work for the middle decks on Fuso (made a right ‘Horlicks’ of the kit part so had to rebuild from plastic bar). Gonna play aroud with the composition next and work on the base before I get too involved with the kits themselves.

Combrig kits of IJN Ironclad Fuso (1900) and IJN Gunboat Heine (1895)f

Found these two Combrig 1/700 kits in my stash. don’t imagine they ever served together but they will be sharing the same base when completed! First go at a Combrig kit and smaller than my preferred scale but they look interesting. These kits might be harder to source in future now that Mike at...

That last picture made me double check the mast alignment, think it’s slightly but accentuated by parallax . This pic hides it!11

All parts fitted, rigging sorted (as best I can from Zvezda instructions). Apart from a little extra work on the sea base and a coat of Matt varnish, that’s it, completed. Now heading for my stash of kits to see which one takes my fancy.

Running out of enthusiasm (and patience) with this build so decided on no more extra detailing, just finish the rigging and seascape and some touch up work. Then back onto my long term project (HMS Dreadnought 1907). Will post some piccys of this when it comes out of storage.

Thank you Ian. paintwork almost finished on launches now, just a bit of shading/weathering then ready to add to model. Bit of a conundrum, can’t decide whether to add the funnel braces now or after the boats and launches are fitted to the boat deck, gonna be a pain either way. also done some...
