    Going to change the deck planking to a shift 4 planking after some research. for ease of use 10cm, followed by 2.5cm, 5cm, 7.5cm. Typically the planks were 25 feet long so 1/78 = 9.77cm. Brian

    Finished the first deck, sanded and applied a bit of danish oil which has darkened it somewhat, it should dry a bit lighter :unsure:

    Got my planks this morning and managed to do 1/3 of the main deck before realising it's wrong, so had to strip it .....:eek: anyway started again and got this far :)

    surprisingly no it's a bit darker than pear wood and the kit calls for a walnut stain which would be very dark.

    Did a bit of modifying the beakhead for the offset bowsprit. going to plank it so will tidy it all up.

    Ok first dilemma the deck calls for stain and varnish, but I don't think that will look right so decided to plank the deck with cherry strips 3 x 0.5mm your thoughts?

    She is a early ship ( 1637) before copper was used, she has a white painted hull below the waterline (a protective anti-fouling mixture containing calcium carbonate (lime) to protect the wooden hull from shipworms and marine rot.)
