    Gary's Academy 1/48 scale Wildcat F4F-F

Thanks Steve, but it's not just down to me, that AK 3gen paint is really nice. Dries quick and with almost no brush marks. The trick seems to be to thin it well and to apply many thin coats to build up the colour. It is however quite susceptible to chipping and it needs to be handled with...

    Gary's Academy 1/48 scale Wildcat F4F-F

Undersides and top surface of the wings/tail have now been painted. The fuselage needs another coat then the masking tape taken off - hopefully not too much touching up will be required afterwards. After that its a question of picking out some details, and then on with the gloss varnish to...

Gary's 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Mk.IIa Weekend Edition build

A bit of progress, would have liked to have got further than this by now, but the Wildcat build has been keeping me busy. Still, it's a start....

    Impressed

As a returnee to the hobby after a considerable period of time (28 years or so) one of the things I noticed was how the newer acrylics make brush painting that much easier. Self leveling, quick drying times etc, etc

    Gary's Academy 1/48 scale Wildcat F4F-F

Thanks Geoff, brush painting always takes time as lots of thin coats seems to be the key to getting a reasonable result. And of course some of my build time is now being spent on the Spitfire GB. But at last I can see some progress.

    Andy's 1/144 Spitfire Mk1a

Wonderful! I remember building a couple of those Revell kits a long, long time ago!

Gary's 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Mk.IIa Weekend Edition build

Let battle commence! The postman came up trumps this afternoon, so at last I can make a start. Never used Hataka acrylics before so will be trying them out on an old model first.

    Gary's Academy 1/48 scale Wildcat F4F-F

Construction is largely complete and the Wildcat has received a couple of thin coats of primer prior. Academy provide different sets of parts for an open canopy or closed canopy version. As I am going for the open canopy option I used the "closed" canopy parts to mask off the interior, hence...

Yes, it's good to now that I'm not the only one using a brush to paint. I am quite happy to carry on doing so, even though it does sometimes limit my choice of subject (i.e. you can't easily replicate the blotchy WWII Luftwaffe camo without an airbrush).

Gary's 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Mk.IIa Weekend Edition build

I'm looking forward to starting as soon as the postman delivers the paint. I've been drooling over the kit and studying the manual - it's quite complex and a bit above my pay grade to be honest, but I shall give it my best shot!

Gary's 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Mk.IIa Weekend Edition build

Still waiting for the paint to arrive otherwise I would have made a start. Still gives me a chance to get the Wildcat finished.

    Geoff’s 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Story - Spitfire Mk.I build.

Can I pick your brains Geoff? What colour are you going to use for the interior on your Spit?? Eduard suggest Aircraft Gray-Green for my Mk.IIa, but I always thought that the early Spitfires used a much lighter colour (the so called "apple green"), something more along the lines of FS34272? I...

Gary's 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Mk.IIa Weekend Edition build

For my contribution to the GB I thought I would have a go at this:- Currently studying the instructions and waiting for the postman to deliver some goodies (paint and masks etc) so I can begin.

First flight of the Spitfire 5th March 1936 - 90 years ago

Oops, looks like you got your 10, but if the chance is still there, I would like to have a go. I'm sure my build won't be up to the standard of many of the models I've seen here, but at least my efforts might give the rest of you a laugh! :D:D:D:D

Are you guys still looking for the 10th person?? I've just got my hands on the Eduard 1/48 Spit IIa and will give it a bash if you are looking for someone to make up the numbers. Be warned though, I'm a bit of a slow builder, so might not get if finished before the deadline!
