Gary's 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Mk.IIa Weekend Edition build

Let battle commence! The postman came up trumps this afternoon, so at last I can make a start. Never used Hataka acrylics before so will be trying them out on an old model first.

    Gary's Academy 1/48 scale Wildcat F4F-F

Construction is largely complete and the Wildcat has received a couple of thin coats of primer prior. Academy provide different sets of parts for an open canopy or closed canopy version. As I am going for the open canopy option I used the "closed" canopy parts to mask off the interior, hence...

    Impressed

Yes, it's good to now that I'm not the only one using a brush to paint. I am quite happy to carry on doing so, even though it does sometimes limit my choice of subject (i.e. you can't easily replicate the blotchy WWII Luftwaffe camo without an airbrush).

Gary's 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Mk.IIa Weekend Edition build

I'm looking forward to starting as soon as the postman delivers the paint. I've been drooling over the kit and studying the manual - it's quite complex and a bit above my pay grade to be honest, but I shall give it my best shot!

Gary's 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Mk.IIa Weekend Edition build

Still waiting for the paint to arrive otherwise I would have made a start. Still gives me a chance to get the Wildcat finished.

    Geoff’s 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Story - Spitfire Mk.I build.

Can I pick your brains Geoff? What colour are you going to use for the interior on your Spit?? Eduard suggest Aircraft Gray-Green for my Mk.IIa, but I always thought that the early Spitfires used a much lighter colour (the so called "apple green"), something more along the lines of FS34272? I...

Gary's 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Mk.IIa Weekend Edition build

For my contribution to the GB I thought I would have a go at this:- Currently studying the instructions and waiting for the postman to deliver some goodies (paint and masks etc) so I can begin.

First flight of the Spitfire 5th March 1936 - 90 years ago

Oops, looks like you got your 10, but if the chance is still there, I would like to have a go. I'm sure my build won't be up to the standard of many of the models I've seen here, but at least my efforts might give the rest of you a laugh! :D:D:D:D

First flight of the Spitfire 5th March 1936 - 90 years ago

Are you guys still looking for the 10th person?? I've just got my hands on the Eduard 1/48 Spit IIa and will give it a bash if you are looking for someone to make up the numbers. Be warned though, I'm a bit of a slow builder, so might not get if finished before the deadline!

    Gary's Academy 1/48 scale Wildcat F4F-F

The horizontal stab needed a bit of sanding as the fit was very tight, but after that it was almost not necessary to glue it in place. Same goes for the rudder. The wing to fuselage joint was also very good, particularly the upper surface wing root which went together with no gaps etc.

    Gary's Academy 1/48 scale Wildcat F4F-F

A bit more progress. Everything went together with a minimum of fuss and only the slightest amount of filler. The fit of the parts is snug so it pays to do a good test fit before gluing

    Gary's Academy 1/48 scale Wildcat F4F-F

After building 7 1/72nd jets in a row I thought it was time for a change. The Academy Wildcat took my eye, so I thought I would have a go at it. It is relatively new tool, with lovely detail and a good fit. PE parts are included for the seat as well as masks for the canopy and wheels. The...

Airfix 1/72nd scale Blackburn Buccaneer S.2C

Thanks Steve! It is pretty amazing what Gemini can do with a photo, but sometimes it does play tricks on you so you have to be pretty specific and tell it not to alter your own photo. Even so on one image it has sneaked pilots into the cockpit even though my model does not have them!

Airfix 1/72nd scale Blackburn Buccaneer S.2C

Thanks! I guess I'll have to think about getting an airbrush at some stage, but at the moment I'm quite content to brush paint. It does take some time though and of course there are some finishes you just can't do with the hairy stick!
