    Aston Martin Ulster.... 1/32 Matchbox

Looks like an interesting oldie Paul. I do wish someone would make modern mouldings of the iconic sit up and beg era cars though. It would make a nice change from the interminable range of jelly mould racers that dominate car kits at the moment.

    Brian's Sovereign of the seas

That’s interesting. Finish has come out well. However, the more I think about it, I wonder how long it lasted in service? It certainly wouldn’t have the adhesion and toughness of modern paints, and there would be no way to repaint her unless she was either heeled right over (difficult I...

    Off to a heart specialist!

Be aware John, that private clinics can see your NHS data, but they rarely reciprocate this so your GP cannot see their reports, unless you pay them to send a letter onwards of course. It seems to be a form of protectionism on their part, forcing you to keep paying for their services. My...

    Worst /best kit you’ve built.

Best was an Eduard FW190 for the group build, closely followed by an Eduard Zero, also for a group build. Fit, finish, instructions, decals, etc were all top notch on both. The Airfix Spitfire I did a couple of years ago was excellent as well. Worst, in recent memory anyway, was the...

    Off to a heart specialist!

Hi John. When I went to A and E with my embolisms a couple of years ago I was seen and on an ecg machine within a few minutes, and assessed quite soon afterwards. After that I had an appointment with a specialist, was scanned, X rayed and ultrasound tested, and on treatment within 24 hours...

    Off to a heart specialist!

Better to know John. I’m sure it’s not that serious though, you would have been called straight in if it was.

Reinforcing the Gustav Line, Italy 1944

Good work here Tim. The rock face backdrop looks great, and further colour applications will just bring it to life more and more.

    Very puzzled and annoyed

Might be the thinner attacking the body if it went on a bit too wet then. That stuff is pretty much lacquer based.

Why don't all models come with a masking set?

Tamiya sometimes include uncut masks I think. Almost as much an issue cutting them as masking from scratch though.

    Very puzzled and annoyed

Just been reading a bit more…..apparently terpinolene can dissolve styrene plastics. Wondering if the body shell was injection moulded at a lower than usual pressure, so making it not as resistant as the bumper to attack? Just my musing, we’ll probably never know. Still weird though.

Why don't all models come with a masking set?

That’s very similar to what I do when a mask set isn’t available Richard . I use sets mostly as a time saver. Lots of things I’d rather do than mask canopies . I only use kabuki tape masking sets though, I find the vinyl sets distort and lift too easily. As to why they aren’t in kits….cost...

    Very puzzled and annoyed

I’ve used it a lot over the years and never had an issue with it. It’s basically a lacquer primer. Back in the day I used to use Halfords cellulose grey and decant it for airbrush. Can’t be the primer anyway Kaci, as you said the issue never happened until you tried to strip primer and top...

    Very puzzled and annoyed

That is incredible. No idea what material difference would do that, but it’s unbelievable unless you actually see it. Almost like the body was made of expanded polystyrene……..

    Hasegawa mitsubishi lancer Evo VI

Nice finish on that one Kaci.

    Another Varnish and AB question?

For brushing, straight from the jar thoroughly mixed. For spraying Tamiya or Mr Color I dilute them the same as I do paint, approximately fifty fifty. The varnish must be well mixed though.

    Clearing varnish through AB?

Several thin coats are always better than one thick coat 😄 A larger nozzle/needle will give you a wider spray cone for a given position of the trigger, but will also use more air and varnish because the overspray area will be greater. Air use will only be a problem if your compressor can’t keep...
