    Worst /best kit you’ve built.

The Eduard Mig-21 or Airfix Sea King, both in 1/48 are superb. I have a Tamiya F-35C which has rave reviews in the stash. The 1/24 Revell Trabant was equally as awful as the real thing.

    Latest Acquisitions (2026)

IPMS Stoke haul. Sometimes I do a bit of model making in the living room but the smell of TET gets complaints from my ladies; so I thought I’d try the low odour stuff. The truck is to go with my Ju52, the CBLS for my Buccaneer and the T-Rex is for my daughter.

Rick’s 1/72 Westland Wessex HC.2, No.2 Flying Training School, Royal Air Force Shawbury

Thanks for all the comments Another point I didn’t mention is the kit doesn’t have a pitot mast included. I used plastic rod and drilled a hole (see notes in my notebook). In hindsight I should have use wire because the plastic rod doesn’t quite have a right angle.

Rick’s 1/72 Westland Wessex HC.2, No.2 Flying Training School, Royal Air Force Shawbury

Just finished this great little kit. I finished it with the 2FTS scheme as I have a very loose connection. Many years ago I spent a week at RAF Shawbury on pre employment course before a posting to a helicopter squadron. The purpose of the course was to introduce ground crew to helicopters...

    Neil's Eduard 1/48 Mig-21 PF

Snap! I ran a Mig-21 GB on this forum many years ago, maybe need another. https://www.scalemodelling.co.uk/threads/ricks-eduard-1-48-ethiopian-air-force-mig-21-mf.17053/

    Neil's Eduard 1/48 Mig-21 PF

These Eduard Mig-21’s are great kits. I built one years ago and thought it the best kit I’d built until the 1/48 Airfix Sea King came along.

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Phantom FGR2 - in the hangar.

Getting the resin detail parts to fit are, unsurprisingly, a challenge. They’re not designed for the Airfix RAF Phantoms so a fair fit of test fitting, trimming and filing is required. The forward avionic bays have a massive gap which will need a bit of filling with a plasticard shim. There’s...

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Junkers Ju52 - a rite of passage build

When I got back into plastic modelling one of the first kits I bought was the old Airfix Ju52 floatplane. I never built it, quickly realising what a dog of a kit it looked. Fast forward a few years and a new tool kit has hit the shelves from Airfix (one I predicted for 2026). But why a “rite of...

    Compressor leak.

Does your compressor have a moisture trap? A clear shot glass looking device attached to the regulator with a plunger you push up from the bottom of the trap to drain any trapped moisture.

    The state of things.

Just saw this post on my LMS Facebook page. I absolutely loathe scum that do this to decent honest businesses just trying to get by. Great little shop.

    Papa695s Airfix 1/72 Vickers Wellington Mk.1A/C

It’s a nice kit. I did one when it first came out and really enjoyed it.

    Latest Acquisitions (2026)

Just arrived. The Phantom intake blanks for my current project, the Bucc blanks for a recently finished and the Sea King rotor head in anticipation of the forthcoming HAR3.

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Phantom FGR2 - in the hangar.

Engine bay panels cut out. A bit of neatening to do around the edges. The resin engine bay looks like it may pose some challenges, it’s too long and so is the engine.

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Phantom FGR2 - in the hangar.

Got back on this at last. Cutting out panels and cutting off the radome and drag chute cover. Resin avionics compartments have been glued into position. Both fuselage halves done but only one shown.
