    Thanks John I will paint them yellow ochre and as for the banding I too thought they were rope but according to the dockyard in portmouth thay are metal straps painted the same yellow ochre as the masts

    no Neil the hull is finished just the ships boats to go across the black beams deciding whether to fit them or not they will block the view of the guns

    More progress, It's slow having to wait for stuff I could start the main mast but I'm not at all good at multitasking :) I had to remove the bottom banding to get the photo etch ring to fit (Tomorrow) The painting guide "the top masts are painted black" everywhere I look there painted yellow...

    Thanks Tim your comments are very much appreciated, did a few hours this morning and fell in love with my mini lathe and rigging book both of which are going to be very helpful. Progress so far today.

    Ok found some cotton tulle on fleabay so while waiting for that I'm going to start the lower foremast which is a fairly involved process of shaping dowl. :)
