    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

More great stuff Brian. I have always kept the lanyards as natural rope colour, they would certainly not be tarred since they were frequently redone and tarring would make them hard to work with. John

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Hi Brian I would finish off the deadeyes. It will stop the foremast shrouds flopping about while you attack the main mast. It would also allow you to finish the FUTTOCK shrouds, below the foretop. John

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

You probably know this but a little jig as shown can help get the deadeyes lined up.

    Neil's 1-35 Liberty Ship Diorama

Another superb member of your cast of thousands. Very well done. John

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Hi Brian I would go for something fairly thin perhaps 0.5 Don't forget that you also have the LANIARDS to rattle down the dead eyes. These are stopped off over the shroud seizing and would probably be a little thinner maybe 0.2 mm. You might try to give all your cords a good coat of bees wax to...

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Brian In my opinion you should start on the shrouds next, at least the lower shrouds. The yards could not really be fitted before the shrouds are rattled down since they would get in the way. Maybe even simpler to start on the fore and back stays since they will give some practice before you...

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Looking again at Victory I think the wolding was indeed metal rings that were painted ochre as you have them. John

This is the fore mast of my stab at HMS Unicorn. John

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Brian I have usually seen the top mast and the TOP GALLANT mast sections left as varnished wood or perhaps painted the ochre color. The part that fits into the main top and the cross trees are usually painted black as you have them. The WOLDING ( thats the bands around the mast) I have usually...

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

outstanding progress Brian. Before you glue all these parts together at the lower mast head just check if you need to mount the shrouds for the lower mast since they normally loop over the mast head before the top mast is installed. Just for accuracy they also had a wedge inserted between the...

    Freedom

Bravo Mick. I've been a burden on society for the last 16 years and never regretted an instant. You'll find plenty to keep you busy. and if you don't there's always pickleball...! John

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Great job on the anchor ring puddening. Hammocks were always brought up but of course when not in battle only half would be in the cranes since only one watch would be active. John You could check in an art store for raw artist's canvas, that might be less expensive.

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

More great work Brian. Below is some reference material that you may find useful. These images come from a book called The Young Sea Officer's Sheet Anchor. Originally published in 1760 and updated in 1819. You can get reproduction editions of this original book as in this image. Check it...

Smiffy Excellent job so far. I must say this looks all the better for having a good well painted pilot model sitting in. John

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Brian I have not built a Mantua model although I hear that they are very good. I have built a few Corel models which I enjoyed; They do have a rather nice Wasa model. However I would wait until you have fully rigged Victory before you commit to another one. John

Brian This is an excellent and detailed model of a very fine ship. Being a huge fan of this period you inspired me to do this little sketch, in your honour. John
