    Chris T's Trenchworks Churchill 'Bobbin' Type-D Gold Beach (Geoff's D-Day 80th)

Well, I've not posted this until the 'D' itself, even though it was effectively finished before the GB even properly started. Through me not paying attention So, Churchill Mk IV (R) AVRE Carpet Layer Type-D, 81 Sqn, 6th Assault Regt. (RE), 79th Armoured Division - Trenchworks / Warlord resin...

StD's Trenchworks / Warlord Churchill AVRE carpet Layer Type 'D' 28mm

Okay, so, as I COMPLETELY jumped the gun on this one (the weather, moon and tide all aligned early!), I've not posted any more of this until the Day. Today. Just not at H-Hour And it's finished, so there will be a few more pics over in a completed thread Crew figures are proper proportion...

    Chris' 1/20 Tamiya Honda RA272

Well, I got this one specially, because it was just there in the shop and it was cheap! I used to have the 1/12 version, but sold that a while back. It may be a while before i start though, what with other stuff screaming to be finished, but here's the sprue shots... The engine covers are...

Chris' 1/72 Airfix Hurricane 'Last of the Many' G-AMAU

Well, this took a while longer than hoped, but I've finally got a satisfactory result G-AMAU is the racer guise of 'Last of the Many', the final Hurricane to be buill, a Mk IIC. In 1951 she was sponsored by Princess Margaret to fly in the Kings Cup air race, and flown by Group captain Peter...

    Airfix 1/72 Hurricane IIC G-AMAU

Right, wings done. The spare resin bay put in, lights in and a couple of bits of cut sprue as nav light covers And on they go. Only the U/C to do at this stage, which was cobbled from a few spare bits, and over to a finished thread! Yay.

    Airfix 1/72 Hurricane IIC G-AMAU

So, as I have no six-pipe exhausts anywhere in the spares, I got a set of resin AML ones Painted them silver, because they look very shiny in the photos. Then noticed a prominent mould line along the centre, which was promptly removed But when they were cut from the block... Frustrating. And...

    Airfix 1/72 Hurricane IIC G-AMAU

Okay. This has come perilously close to me walking away. The last time that happened, it was 12 years before | went back to a particularly frustrating model. Some part-started stuff has now been waiting longer but I digress... And it was all going so well All the small lettering is done...

    Airfix 1/72 Hurricane IIC G-AMAU

If you think that's good... Sometimes I even get a mildly satisfactory outcome! Needs a bit of touch-up, but hasn't turned out too bad, all things considered. Starboard side is better than port. The portside 'U' needs work as it was originally a transfer as mask So, now I've got to add...

StD's Trenchworks / Warlord Churchill AVRE carpet Layer Type 'D' 28mm

Right. With the mounting plates removed, the 'Bobbin' frame is on! Add on the wading gear, and we're about done! And just for size I've left off the turret hatches for now because I'm kind of in two minds about adding a crew. Most of the vehicles operated on the beaches appear to have...

StD's Trenchworks / Warlord Churchill AVRE carpet Layer Type 'D' 28mm

The turret has a very nicely printed petard as separate piece. Compare though with my other 3D printed AVRE turret, from my in progress bridgelayer (which was the first Churchill I got in this scale, and set me on this dark path...) I'll probably fill around the two hull blocks. Which I...

StD's Trenchworks / Warlord Churchill AVRE carpet Layer Type 'D' 28mm

So, I was going to see how quick I can get this together. It would have been an hour, except for an annoying hitch, of which more in a bit Hull and tracks together, Hull MG and AVRE frames added. There are two printed blocks that fit in the front hull, probably for the option of a crab or...

StD's Trenchworks / Warlord Churchill AVRE carpet Layer Type 'D' 28mm

Well, I've started a collection of Churchills in 28mm, and I've a couple of Hobart's 'Funnies', so, while other projects are 'waiting' (for paint and varnish and glue to dry) thought I'd do a quick build The Tenchworks 'Bobbin', available from Warlord, is a Type 'D' Carpet Layer on a Mk,.IV...

    Airfix 1/72 Hurricane IIC G-AMAU

Okay. So the starboard side masking took about half the time as the first. Then over-sprayed with gloss varnish to prevent too much bleed Next will be the blue Not a real disaster but a minor hiccup. I haven't done the wings underside blue just yet, but I thought I'd gloss it up first And...

Welcome to Geoff’s D-Day 80th Anniversary tribute chat thread.

Okay, so, while I'm waiting for some silver paint and varnishes to dry, I think I will jump in on this. Just see how quick I can get this done

    Airfix 1/72 Hurricane IIC G-AMAU

So, here's a successful test The tail surfaces have no gold, and they've come out fine. Likewise the u/c doors. The right hand u/c doors are to test masking , and that's not looking too bad. This will be the big test though Three hours work striping and lettering. The 'go faster' stripes...

    Airfix 1/72 Hurricane IIC G-AMAU

Three days and the gold is STILL tacky. Although that does seem to be making the masking stick well In my, several, sets of RAF letter transfers, I had none to right size or type face for either the wings or fuselage. So, let's see how this goes Carefully examining the film and photos from...

Looking good there. Just for reference, this is the alternate sprue

    Airfix 1/72 Hurricane IIC G-AMAU

Well, been a while, while I've been sorting Biplane #4 and the Hawker Hector from the Biplane GB, now time expired but I WILL finish THEM So, now I'm about to commit a modern modelling heresy. I don't think much of AK paints, but it's probably just me and my airbrush... So, here's the gold...

    Airfix 1/72 Hurricane IIC G-AMAU

Now, this is the start of a bit of an experiment The kit has alternate doors for U/C up or down, so I'm using one to try the marking masking idea. So, the gold doesn't cover very well by brush, but this is a test. When it's dry, it'll get a varnish fix, then I'll add some tape marking...

    Airfix 1/72 Hurricane IIC G-AMAU

Cockpit in and canopy added The central panel is another spare from the Gladiator All of which is invisible with that canopy framing!
