I think they had to use hefty rods because of the massive size of the bay . For a 50 ft span aircraft to have only 1 bay between struts is unusual .- yak face

The fibre optic strands are quite strong and stiff steve , the paint is just cause they look like theyre painted in the upper colour in photos . I’d recommend trying to get hold of some of these if youve got a rod rigged aircraft to do- yak face

Cheers joe , actually confession time - the tail wheel is out of the spares box , the kit one pinged out of the tweezers while i was trying to paint it and disappeared into another dimension . A coat of klear sealed the paint and gave a nice smooth surface for the decals . I thought the decals might be a bit tricky as they are obviously quite old but they behaved perfectly - good colour density and quick to release from the paper . Italeri 1/72 Macchi mc202 Folgore
With a final push this is now done . It had a wash and then a final couple of mist coats of matt before all the last bits were fitted . The canopy is tiny and fragile so I opted to hand paint the frames instead of masking , helpfully the frame lines are very well defined . Here's a few pics to...- yak face

Decals now on , so next up is a sealing mist of Klear then a light panel wash . The exhausts need painting then I can give it some light soot staining and a final matt coat , then its on with the last few bits - undercarriage , canopy , aerial etc .- yak face

I used Vallejo metal color dull aluminium but it came out far from dull with a very shiny finish- which would have looked great if I was doing a polished natural metal aircraft but this is silver painted doped linen bird .
