    New person to the mix

Hi john , welcome to the forum . Nice choice of subjects there , the Thunderchief is a fantastic machine , surprisingly large for a single engine craft ( in fact im not sure if it holds the record for the heaviest single engine aircraft ? ) I did the monogram 1/48 a while ago and loved it ...

Letov s16 in 1/72 KP models

I think they had to use hefty rods because of the massive size of the bay . For a 50 ft span aircraft to have only 1 bay between struts is unusual .

The fibre optic strands are quite strong and stiff steve , the paint is just cause they look like theyre painted in the upper colour in photos . I’d recommend trying to get hold of some of these if youve got a rod rigged aircraft to do

Letov s16 in 1/72 KP models

After the rigging rods were finished all the ends were painted silver and any spots of superglue touched up with the appropriate colours. Its now had another quick coat of matt to tie everything together . While its drying I made a start with some of the last bits to be added . The propeller was...

Letov s16 in 1/72 KP models

Cheers richard , yes its definitely a bit obscure but like yourself that only attracts me more . Plus its an old unloved kit that needs a bit of care to get the best out of it . Todays update - after gluing the interplane struts on the top wing was then fitted . The fibre optic strands were...

Letov s16 in 1/72 KP models

The rigging rods dilemma has hopefully been resolved . At first I was going to use acupuncture needles , its something ive used before and gives a good representation of a rigid rod but I didnt have enough . Then I remembered I’d got some fibre optic strands in the spares box . I got these a...

    Macchi mc202 Folgore 1/72 finished

Cheers joe , actually confession time - the tail wheel is out of the spares box , the kit one pinged out of the tweezers while i was trying to paint it and disappeared into another dimension . This spare one was the nearest I could find although as you noticed slightly bigger than the original...

BOATMANS XB-70 Valkyrie in 1/72 scale

Thats fantastic chris , what an achievement , it looks brilliant . Shame it came to a sticky end though , but I bet it looked amazing the short time it was flying . Although if you had wanted to build another one you could always have cut a few corners and used that shirt collar for the...

Letov s16 in 1/72 KP models

A coat of klear sealed the paint and gave a nice smooth surface for the decals . I thought the decals might be a bit tricky as they are obviously quite old but they behaved perfectly - good colour density and quick to release from the paper . All 10 are now on ( yes, a relief from tiny stencils...

    Italeri 1/72 Macchi mc202 Folgore

With a final push this is now done . It had a wash and then a final couple of mist coats of matt before all the last bits were fitted . The canopy is tiny and fragile so I opted to hand paint the frames instead of masking , helpfully the frame lines are very well defined . Here's a few pics to...

Decals now on , so next up is a sealing mist of Klear then a light panel wash . The exhausts need painting then I can give it some light soot staining and a final matt coat , then its on with the last few bits - undercarriage , canopy , aerial etc .

Letov s16 in 1/72 KP models

Undersides now painted . I used Vallejo metal color dull aluminium but it came out far from dull with a very shiny finish- which would have looked great if I was doing a polished natural metal aircraft but this is silver painted doped linen bird . After this dried ( not more than ten minutes in...
