    Mercedes-Benz 300SL (Tamiya 1/24), "Fat Boy" restomod

Yeah, these pictures are taken pre-accident. Although, I managed to fix it to an acceptable level. Sure some "scars" are visible on closer inspection, but overall it's ok:

    Mercedes-Benz 300SL (Tamiya 1/24), "Fat Boy" restomod

Here is another attempt to modify a model. For this one I decided to give it modern wheels, wider arcs, a chopped-off roof, make a shorter windshield, spoilers, and a custom storage area. I used a Bamboo 3D printer to make the new parts. The photos could be better. I need a better camera...

    Mercedes-Benz 300SL (Tamiya 1/24), "Fat Boy" restomod

Fun story: during the final photoshoot the background board was blown by a windgust and if fell straight on the car. The damage was severe: broken of wheels, shatered rear compartment, broken windshield frame, and buch of small parts fell off. On a positive note: I learned that I like the look...

The final photoshoot: The photos could be better. I need a better camera. And more patience :)

    Mercedes-Benz 300SL (Tamiya 1/24), "Fat Boy" restomod

Some progress on the body: The original body: New 3D printed arcs attached, doors glued-in and chopped-off roof: Holes near the arcs are closed up with clay putty and regular putty. I also managed to break the windshield supports while trying to make it shorter :/ Thus, I had to do extra...

    Mercedes-Benz 300SL (Tamiya 1/24), "Fat Boy" restomod

yeah, I experienced the same when buying custom tyres for my Cobra. Printing them was way easier for sure. Even the size of decals was off (I bought 1/24, but it felt more like 1/18 or for truck tyres). As far as the modeling goes I'm not doing anything complex. I know just the basics of...

    Mercedes-Benz 300SL (Tamiya 1/24), "Fat Boy" restomod

Made some extra parts to install the axis straight, although I feel it's not strong enough and I would try to glue/print it differently next time.

    Mercedes-Benz 300SL (Tamiya 1/24), "Fat Boy" restomod

The first problem was printing the wheels in a way that doesn't produce too many printing artifacts. The level of detail is at the edge of what my printer can produce. I have Bamboo P1S - it's a great printer, but from what I've seen it would be easier if I had SLA/DLP printer. Anyway, 7...

    Mercedes-Benz 300SL (Tamiya 1/24), "Fat Boy" restomod

This is the most heavily modified project that I have tried. It needs custom wheels, new arcs, a chopped off roof, a lower windshield, a whole custom area behind the seats, a back spoiler and a front lip. As usual I got a cheap model (something like 5$ :)) and then model new parts on top of it...

Regarding quality of the kit: just look at this frame, how can you not love it :)

    Mercedes-Benz 300SL (Tamiya 1/24), "Fat Boy" restomod

I asked Santa for Mercedes-Benz 300SL last Christmas and my wish came true! :) It came as Tamiya kit and I love it. The level of detail and production quality is amazing. I have recently tried Revell (level 3), Fujimi and Tamiya, and I would rate them in the same order. Would you say that it's...

    Shelby Cobra 427 S/C (Fujimi)

I finished Shelby Cobra (semi) recently (1/24 by Fujimi). This is my first time trying to customize a model (beyond painting and stickers). I 3D printed slightly bigger + wider tyres as I didn't like the ones in the set at all (they were clearly more narrow than what's on the cover, see this if...

Shelby Cobra 427, Fujimi (vs Revell)

The final shots. Some notable things: custom hinges for trunk and hood, custom trimming for seats plus seatbelts, and wider arcs and wider tyres as mentioned earlier. The paint job and finish in general could be better - I'm still in the process of learning :) The bigger tyres might be a...

Shelby Cobra 427, Fujimi (vs Revell)

I didn't take many pictures of the painting process, but I really struggled with painting the black stripes on the body. Either black paint was getting under the mask, or masks was ripping of the paint when you peal them. I must be doing something wrong. What's the trick? :D

Shelby Cobra 427, Fujimi (vs Revell)

I wasn't sure if I wanted to have trunk and hood open, so I decided to make it openable :) Special part for aligning drilled holes:

Shelby Cobra 427, Fujimi (vs Revell)

My approach was to find a free or cheap 3D model online and then model any modifications on top. This is just the 3rd car model in my life and the first where I'm trying to make the modifications, so I'm kind of trying to figure out the ropes as I go :smiling3: I wanted some wider arcs, so I...

Shelby Cobra 427, Fujimi (vs Revell)

I experimented with printing wheels for the model. Just using regular extrusion printer and printing ABS. Mostly experimenting on direction of the print: The final results are pretty decent: And here is the painted result: I bought a bunch of "GOOD YEAR" stickers that were supposed to be for...

Shelby Cobra 427, Fujimi (vs Revell)

I wanted to make Shelby Cobra for a while, but I wanted something street/sporty/modern looking. Eventually bought Fujimi and Revell kits. Fujimi looks great on the cover. If it looked like that when assembled I would have zero interest in making any mods. Unfortunately, the actual stance of...

    BMW Z4 GT3 (Fujimi x2)

I recently finished two BMW Z4s. Originally I had just one, but when researching how I wanted to paint it I found that there is another variant with the full body covered with these manga decals. So I bought that one too and completed them both :) The built quality could be better, but...
