Castle Diorama - Lizard enclousre
Some very slow progress. Lava river has been poured but did not work uit as expected. I should have used pigment nstead of ink. I will have to come up with a fix for it. Probalby removing supporting plastic sheet underneath to get more even ilumination and some surface work. Maybe getting it...- killwater

Another update. Ground floor walls finished: First floor in progress: Using toy bricks speeds up building at least three times. And the effect is much better. I used a whole kilo of the casting plaster already and I thought I have enough for the whole build... Any ideas how to add texture...- killwater

Just a quick photo update. I had to rebuild it three times as it has been to distorted. For the rest I am going to use lego bricks knockoff to get the angles right. Also the resin should be coming on the weekend so the lava river should finally progress.- killwater

Thank you Tim for the reply. In regards to the silicone I am using one that is used for aquariums for all applications requiring adhesives - this is widely used practice in the reptile hobby. In general if it is safe for fish it is safe for reptiles as water would work as transfer medium and...- killwater

Black wash around lava river is still to be done - I will use the technique you guys suggested: wet the rocks, add a bit of black paint and then spread it around. I think the probelm with getting good looking paint job is lack of detail on big flat surfaces and lack of small rocks (I need it to be relatively easy to clean). I took your advice and used white and bright red. Unfortunately I have tilted to much in the other direction. Not easy to get the right color balance but it is definitely a step in the right direction. I put a black wash on it to see if I can get it a bit less pronounced - might be once it...- killwater

I did the washes yesterday. Unfortunately it did not work out well. I will paint it black and retry the drybruch technique. It might be that there isn't engough detail to actually work with these techniques.- killwater

The base is black grout so it can take little but sharp claws. It will have to be sealed with watered down clear PVA glue. I there was no undercoat - I used black grout in case the paint would be scratched off in places. I will try again then with three washes technique and tomorrow I will try...- killwater
