If you think that lot are bad, try a Falcon brass etched wagon kit (actually, just don’t!). I made the mistake of buying a couple from a bring and buy at a model railway show years ago. Yep, what John says. I’ve done hundreds, in all sorts of scales. They will be an alloy close to solder, certainly not aluminium. They will be lead free these days as well. I usually clean them up with scalpel and fine files, pretty much the same as plastic ones. I would wash them in dilute...- Tim Marlow

What did I agree too!
S gauge is 3/16 to the inch I think. Quite a niche scale in the UK, though current 28mm wargames figures are close to it. Looking good and building up nicely, by the way.- Tim Marlow

Masking tape or pewter (as Scottie or Jim suggest) would be my go to as well. It needs to be easy to manipulate, easy to work, and stay in position once made. Painted copier or watercolour paper would also fit the bill…..- Tim Marlow

The Zoo closed in 2009 apparently. It’s now just a hotel. Model shed lasted only a few years I think.
