Hi guys an gals, I hope someone can assist me here with 2 things, first can anyone tell me what type of glue to use on the 1/35 scale dora railway gun. I am considering building it soon and have been informed that because the plastic is very hard normal glue won't do the job? and secondly I want to find the electric engines that used to push here from her bunker area to her firing position. there are photographs of these engines but I don't know what they are or where to get them?

thanks folks

scott

I used Zap CA on mine Scott with no problems. Can't help with the locos - I couldn't find any when I looked but that was 3-4 years ago.

Incidentally, have you managed to find any decals 'cos there's none supplied in the kit? If not, this may help:

Just doodling about while waiting for my tea to mash and I found this:

I'm sure I've seen it before but I didn't take too much notice of the type of loco. Maybe this guy could help.

Sorry Scott the above picture is not what you're after.

You are after the Krupp D311/DRG V 188 DIESEL ELECTRIC LOCOS. Marklin do them IRC but only in HO/1/87 scale.

Just been reading all the threads on this spectacular dio and found this:

"Model Fanatic: The locomotives are scratch built. There are no kits of the D311 and nothing that can even be used as a basis for it. They were completely unique items that were made by the Rechsbahn just for the two 80cm railguns. They were coupled together and each gun had two sets (001a and 001b and 002a and 002b). the one in the dio is D311 001a/001b. Marklin makes an H scale electric train that can be used to upscale to 1/35.It is quite expensive, however. The last D311 was scrapped in the 1970's so there is not even any remaining to get measurements off."

Scott my Ariel HK said the same about glue and you can use liquid polly , I used my humbrol on it and it worked fine I had no problem with it not sticking infact I think it stuck better tha polystyrene plastic

That is a shame Dave.

Speaking of the Dora, this guy is obsessed and has made one in 1/16 scale: http://www.vonabt.co.uk/models/Dora/index.html

Thanks guys much appreciated, gen where can I get the zap can from. Also I know you have built one can you tell me how long in feet and inches the track base is?

Scott

Hi Scott. The overall base length is about 83" (6ft 11in) and the gun itself (with the barrel horizontal) is about 74" (6ft 2in).

I got my Zap a gap from the Shrewsbury Model Centre but there are lots of sellers on ebay.

Thanks gern much appreciated mate have to measure out some space.

Best of luck scott that is a monster of a kit are you going to turn it into a dio?.

If anyone wants one of these, there's a new production run:

Mind you, they're also releasing a 1/144 Yamato which looks very tempting - as well as very expensive!

Gern

Edit: Just found out they were taking pre-orders for their 1/144 Bismark back in 2008 and as far as I know that's not been released yet. Don't hold your breath folks!

Out of interest what plastic is the kit in question made from ?

Cheers

I read somewhere that it's SBS or possibly ABS and that neither 'normal' plastic glue nor CA would work; but CA worked fine on mine.

Gern

There are adhesives designed for these plastics. I found a few with a quick google.
