I am trying to figure out where to get props for this Revell 1/350 Iowa battleship I am building. The original props appear to be about 1/2 inch in diameter props, and I cant find any metal props to buy as replacements.

Also, what is the best way of making the propshafts and greaseboxes? I need to get the props first so I can properly mate them to the propshafts and then be able to make the custom shafts. Thanks.

Try the guy in Great Britain by the name of .....G. T. Sitek, scale brass propellers. I've seen his stuff and it's top quality.

As far as the stuffing boxes. Take the shaft size and get the next bigger diameter brass tubing. you'll want two pieces of this tube about 1/2" long to act as bearings on either end of another tube which will be the "stuffing box". the stuffing box will be larger then the "bearing" tube.

now solder the 1/2" pieces inside the ends of the larger tube. The larger tube can be any length that will work for your boat hull.

somewhere by the inboard end of the stuffing box you'll want a vertical tube in which you could put grease or vaseline.

Hi Jacob,

George Sitek will almost certainly be able to supply high quality propellors, shafts, A-frames etc. If he doesn't have the correct size in stock, he will make them to order. Have a look on his site at HOME
