Hi Guys!!!

Today I'll show you my Bf 109 E-4 from Airfix. It's the aircraft of the famous Franz von Werra. He flew the "Emil" during the "Battle of Britain" and was shot down during an escort misson over Britain at 05 September 1940 . He made a crash landing but get out of the wreck uninjured. Soon he was arrested by members of the "Home Guard".

I like Airfix' "new tools". Good surface details and well reproduced proportions.

That is super work Stefan, well done mate. Werra was captured by an army cook and tried to escape later from a work party. He was rounded up again and again attempted to escape in October but was arrested by Home Guard troops. In late 1940 he escaped yet again from. a POW camp and convinced someone he was a Dutch pilot and was taken to RAF Hucknall. He nearly stole an aeroplane, but was caught before he could work out the controls. In 1941 he was sent to Canada. He escaped from a train and after a long trek made it across the border to the USA where he turned himself in to police there. The German consulate baled and then helped Werra to cross the border yet again to Mexico, where he then travelled to Brazil, Spain, Italy, and eventually Germany again. Franz von Werra was awarded the Knights Cross for his ventures, and was killed in October 1941 during a practice flight in a Bf109F. Werra was said to be the only Axis POW to escape from Canada and return to Germany. A film based on his exploits was made in the 1950s called 'The one that got away'.

Thanks, Joe! I did not know that Werra was captured by an army cook....that's funny. Yeah, I've seen the film about Werra's escape a few years ago. Hardy Krüger plays the main role there.:smile:
