discussion 1/72 Corsair (which aircraft carrier?)

I have just been up in the loft setting the rat traps as the wife is shortly going up there checking on the Chrizzy decs..honest!!

I found a box up there containing this Corsair. I made it at a guess, about 25yrs ago and it's been in the loft ever since, completely forgotten until today!

I have posted the pickies in the hope someone can identify which carrier it flew from in WW2 and perhaps add a bit more info about this particular aircraft as well.

Apart from 636 on the engine cowl it has the words 'Luscious LiL Nan.' on t'other side.

I know I could look it up on t'internet but I thought it would be fun to see if 'The Brotherhood' can answer my query?

Well Ron,

You really have got me here - in fact I am pretty sure that most other "Brotherhood" members are also stupped, judging by the number of responses so far!!

I am still routing through books, but I am guessing she flew from The Enterprise back in 43...? Don't hold me to this yet, as I am still researching... I shall be back with confirmation or a retraction...!

Hi Ron as far as i can gather the plane belonged to the hells angels squadron vmf 321 stationed in the soloman islands 1943 then they transfered to guam not sure which pilot flew lil nan though. As far as iam aware they were not carrier based although not having that much knowledge of planes not sure.

mmm yeah, It's a retraction... and I've not found much. Couple of links of interest though...

Model collection this one ID's a model Corsair with the same name and squadron number, confirming Scott's info but bureau number different.

sorry I have not been answering this thread as it's progressing but my wireless modem is knackered and I have to get on my shop one, not easy with two women around!!!

I think the main clue is in the 636 which, as already been suggested, is the aircraft carrier number....

Just wondering if it might be Marine because of the big cowl numbers. Navy usually has letters on the vert sat. USS Yorktown CV10 had a large double RR in white. Just recalling from memory. found this link National Museum of the Marine Corps shows a Navy corsiar with numbers on the cowl, go figure. Another clue forum.planetalk.net/viewtopic.php?t=6035&sid=... check out the middle of this site, 1/16 scale workshop enough he says, cheers, N4521U

Hi guys, you love corsair as much as I do? I have a problem, I`ve been trying to find plans for the corsair f4 and have had no luck? Would anyone have a set they could send me a copy it would be so helpful? Thank`s in advance
