did anyone know that.....

"during trials to determine the most effective tactics to be used by USAF A-10A Thunderbolts, a series of comouflage schemes were evaluated by the 57th TTW in November 1977. The mottled scheme was applied to every part of the aircraft and was changed from day to day to match weather and terrain conditions"

*** And I wonder if anyone bothered to record these interesting colours day by day ? a model of each one would be really something.

but then again the USAF probably realised it was costing to much. and imagine....

pilots get called out on emergency, they have 2hours to get to their destination....."hold on sir, just got to re-paint her and wait for it to dry, then we will be on our way"

Richard W,I would imagine that these were water washable colours, the paints are applied one day and then hosed down the next, just like they did that time with the R.A.F Pumas with white over camouflage.

So if it rains on take off the camoflague changes as it goes down the runway!!

***Actually that is not far from the truth, the poppy drop Dakotas used locally had D-Day marking applied, the day of the drop it rained leaving a rather messy finish when they landed, film companies use the stuff a lot.
