Jason this one wasn't the captains fault. Its been discussed on some of the shipping sites I use what happened was the bridge operator was "out of his head" on prescription pain killers and cheap wine and lowered the bridge before checking to see if the ship had cleared beneath. When the police checked the control cabin the guy was sitting in a corner non responsive shaking.

Guess the guy had his problems but it could have ended up killing someone on the cargo vessel. Thankfully everyone onboard got off with only a few minor bumps and scrapes and I think the bridge was out of commision for a week or so untill they had it fully checked over for damage.

Official report on the incident

Which is more than can be said for the ship!!

Yes thats true. Its took them a while to sort out the mess and to move her cargo across to another vessel.

The ship that did make it

Howdy Davie,

Well, I am afraid I would be shaking too as well as unable to respond after a ride like that.

Now how about a "freshwater" accident, here in the states. It Involves a "pusher/tug boat and Barges", a swollen river and a very sturdy bridge.

Check it out here:

And like it says at the top of the site......"Do not try this at home. Remember, this is a professional captain."

Below is a sneak peek:

Be sure to look over all the photos, they are in order of the way the event occured (from the submerging to the resurfacing and driving off).

Happy New Year,

At that point Greg I think i'd be jumping from the side of the pushertug onto the bridge !!!!!

Give me an 80ft trawler in the North Sea in a winters gale anyday to that !!! I'd feel safer ( I suppose its probably because i've been thru storms that would make 99% of people think fishermen are in need of the men in white coats and "tight fitting" jackets lol ).
