Hi

I understand that people are now moving over to Acrylic paint for many reasons but I have lots of enamel paints as well, my question is.....

Can you paint over enamel paint with acrylic when its dry and vice versa?

Thanks

Tim.

You *may* run into problems putting acrylic over enamel - the simple reason being that enamel is oil-based and just as oil rises to the surface when in water, enamel paint can react in a similar way when covered with another type of paint. Like you, I have more experience of painting with enamels so I'd be interested to hear what the more seasoned acrylic users here have to say on the subject.

I've done it both ways round (oooer missus) and found that as long as each coat is dry fully there are no problems!

I regularly use Tamiya acrylics and Humbrol enamels.

You can use any type of paint over acrylic without any problems, just make sure that the acrylic has dried properly first, 24 hours to be safe.
