discussion acrylic paint not sticking to aires cockpit

hey, i recently bought an aires cockpit for my mig 21.

I started painting it, but my paint, (tamiya acrylic), wont adhere to it.

What do i do so that it doesnt bead up?

Have you cleaned it? all kits will have a residue left on them from the manufacture give it a good scrub with soap and water that should cure it.

Did you cover it first with some primer paint, acrylics will not stick to "bare plastic". You need to use some base paint first like grey enamel paint (humbroll or revell will do). I am always using this before painting and never had problems with Tamyia paints:

Vallejo 400ml White Spray Primer.

i still have another problem if im going to use a spray can.

the main part of the cockpit there, on the left, is going to be really hard to spraypaint fully without soaking everything. any ideas on how to go to the hard-to-reach places?

Well i always use that can primer for a whole model, just before painting, so i'm not sure how this will work in such a narrow places. If you have airbrush, than use some enamel paint and (it will stick to plastic and then you can cover it with any acrylic you want), if you don't than you will have to try on some piece of plastic that have same narrow corners and see the results before using on your model. Hold the can 20-30 cm away from surface you want to paint and spray small layers, let it dry (it dry very quickly), and repeat. Because this vallejo thing is basicly a putty with nitro (so it covers small holes), and every time i sprayed too much i left it for couple a minutes and all excess just vapourized. I hope this will help.

P.S. ALWAYS use it outside, never indoors, it smells very intense.

For my Airies and Black Box etc I clean using a little tiny itty bitty spot of washing up liquid, let air dry then spray with a cellulose primer, then cellulose the main colour then go to work with the acrylics, Tamiya smoke looks great for dirt and stains etc.

So basically what everyone else does
